Abstract
The RELAP5/MOD3.2 R/T engineering quality plant simulation code has been developed based on the system thermal-hydraulics code RELAP5 and the nodal spatial kinetics code NESTLE. Evaluation of the code as an engineering simulator was performed using an NEA PWR control rod withdrawal problem. Real time performance for simulator applications was demonstrated for a BWR plant model using a shared memory multiprocessor. Results here indicate that for problems with cartesian geometry, both engineering design analysis and real-time plant simulation capabilities can be achieved with RELAP5/MOD3.2 R/T. In addition, an improved hexagonal spatial kinetics solver has been developed, and preliminary analysis suggests that real-time performance for a VVER-type core simulator will also be possible.
