Abstract
In advanced database applications, specifying integrity constraints in a declarative way allows to maintain the database consistency so that the database satisfies the integrity constraints. By associating each data with its status, in this paper, we show the consistency information of advanced database applications can be expressed declaratively by a set of clauses, which are classified into four basic categories. We give a semantics of them declaratively and discuss the tradeoff between the representation capability and the verification complexity of integrity constraints on some subclasses of the first order logic. 1 Introduction In order to guarantee the accuracy or validity of data in databases, database management systems should be aware of the constraints which users must not violate.
