Abstract
oot complications and it is estimated that one in three diabetes-related deaths is due to ischaemic heart disease. These clinical practice guidelines were developed by an MOH-appointed committee. It builds on the first Guidelines for the Management of Diabetes Mellitus in Singapore drawn up by the National Diabetes Commission in 1993. It incorporates the latest developments in diabetes care. I congratulate and thank the Committee for preparing these comprehensive updated guidelines. I hope they will play an important part in ensuring good quality of care for diabetic patients.
