Abstract
A scalable video coder is desirable for video application end-users with various capabilities. A simple scalable video coding system implemented in this work has a spatial scalability as well as a temporal scalability. Since motion compensation is used in the algorithm to reduce temporal redundancy, the quality of the decoded video may decay due to the propagation of errors in the temporal domain. Specifically, errors in motion vectors are addressed. The concealment techniques estimate the lost motion vectors by exploiting the spatial and temporal correlation within the video sequence in different layers. The error concealment techniques are found to be successful in recovering the quality faster in both layers. 1.
