Abstract

Osteogenic sarcomiia of bone occurs primarily in previously normal adolescents and young adults 6,18#{149} However, it has also been associated secondarily with irradia-tion exposure to radium 2,43 fibrous dysplasia 38, trauma to bones 6 and Paget’s disease 26,34#{149}The last-namiied lesion is the one mnost commonly associated with osteogenic sarcoma occurring after the age of fifty. Occasionally, this malignant tumor has been encountered in the elderly patients without any known additional abnorniality 29#{149}The present case is that of an osteogenic sarcoma arising in the ilium in an elderly man without Paget’s disease. Necropsy performed seven months after the original diagnosis disclosed an osteogenic sarcoma with metastases to the lungs and pleura and an unsuspected adenocarcinoma of the prostate with metastases to bone. The uniqueness of these findings and the possible relationship between these two malignant tumors are the reason for this report. Case Report M. S.
