We formulate four dimensional higher spin gauge theories in spacetimes with signature (4 −p,p) and nonvanishing cosmological constant. Among them are chiral models in Euclidean (4,0) and Kleinian (2,2) signature involving halfflat gauge fields. Apart from the maximally symmetric solutions, including de Sitter spacetime, we find: (a) SO(4 − p,p) invariant deformations, depending on a continuous and infinitely many discrete parameters, including a degenerate metric of rank one; (b) nonmaximally symmetric solutions with vanishing Weyl tensors and higher spin gauge fields, that differ from the maximally symmetric solutions in the auxiliary field sector; and (c) solutions of the chiral models furnishing higher spin generalizations of Type D gravitational instantons, with an infinite tower of Weyl tensors proportional to totally symmetric products of two principal spinors. BTZ black hole is interpreted as exact solution of 3d higher spin gauge theory. Solutions for free massless fields in BTZ black hole background are constructed with the help of the starproduct algebra formalism underlying the formulation of 3d higher spin theory. We review our recent exact solution to fourdimensional higher spin gauge theory invariant under a higher spin extension of SO(3, 1) and we comment on its cosmological interpretation. We find an effective Einsteinscalar field theory that admits this solution, and we highlight the significance of the Einstein frame and what we call higher spin frame in the cosmological interpretation of the solution. 1

We construct consistent bosonic higherspin gauge theories in odd dimensions D> 3 based on ChernSimons forms. The gauge groups are infinitedimensional higherspin extensions of the Antide Sitter groups SO(D − 1,2). We propose an invariant tensor on these algebras, which is required for the definition of the ChernSimons action. The latter contains the purely gravitational ChernSimons theories constructed by Chamseddine, and so the entire theory describes a consistent coupling of higherspin fields to a particular form of Lovelock gravity. It contains topological as well as nontopological phases. Focusing on D = 5 we consider as an example for the latter an AdS4 × S¹ KaluzaKlein background. By solving the higherspin torsion constraints in the case of a spin3 field, we verify explicitly that the equations of motion reduce in the linearization to the compensator form of the Frønsdal equations
