After semiclassically quantizing these solutions we invert the implicit expressions for the excitation energies in certain limits and find the corrections for the multimagnon states. It was recently noted that the dispersion relation for the magnons of planar N = 4 SYM can be identified with the Casimir of a certain deformation of the Poincaré algebra, in which the energy and momentum operators are supplemented by a boost generator J. By considering the relationship between J and su(22) ⋉ R 2, we derive a qdeformed superPoincaré symmetry algebra of the kinematics. Using this, we show that the dynamic magnon representations may be obtained by boosting from a fixed restframe representation. We comment on aspects of the coalgebra structure and some implications for the question of boostcovariance of the Smatrix. 1 1

Abstract: A prescription is given for computing anomalous dimensions of single trace operators in SYM at strong coupling and large N using a reduced model of matrix quantum mechanics. The method involves treating some parts of the operators as “BPS condensates ” which, in certain limit, have a dual description as null geodesics on the S 5. In the gauge theory, the condensate is similar to a representative of the chiral ring and it is described by a background of commuting matrices. Excitations around these condensates correspond to excitations around this background and take the form of “string bits ” which are dual to the “giant magnons ” of Hofman and Maldacena. In fact, the matrix model approach gives a quantum description of these string configurations and explains why the infinite momentum limit suppresses the quantum effects. This method allows, not only to derive part of the classical sigma model Hamiltonian of the dual string (in the infinite momentum limit), but also its quantum canonical structure. Therefore, it provides an alternative method

In the string theory in AdS4 × CP 3 we construct the giant magnon and spike solutions with two spins in two kinds of subspaces of Rt×CP 3 and derive the dispersion relations for them. For the single giant magnon solution in one subspace we show that its dispersion relation is associated with that of the big onespin giant magnon solution in the RP 2 subspace. For the single giant magnon solution in the other complementary subspace its dispersion relation is similar to that of the onespin giant magnon solution living in the S 2 subspace but has one additional spin dependence.

We consider a Dbrane type state which shares the characteristic of the recently found giant magnon of Hofman and Maldacena. More specifically we find a bound state of giant graviton (D3brane) and giant magnon (Fstring), which has exactly the same anomalous dimension as that of the giant magnon. It is described by the D3brane with electric flux which is topologically a S 3 elongated by the electric flux. The angular momentum and energy are infinite, but split sensibly into two parts – the infinite part precisely the same as that of the giant magnon and the finite part which can be identified as the contribution from the giant graviton. We discuss that the corresponding dual gauge theory operator is not a simple chain type but rather admixture of the (sub)determinant and chain types. 1

It is known that large class of classical string solutions in the type IIB AdS5 × S 5 background is related to the Neumann and NeumannRosochatius integrable systems, including spiky strings and giant magnons. It is also interesting if these integrable systems can be associated with some membrane configurations in Mtheory. We show here that this is indeed the case by presenting explicitly several types of membrane embedding in AdS4 × S 7 with the searched properties.

Abstract: Solitons in field theory provide a window into regimes not directly accessible by the fundamental perturbative degrees of freedom. Motivated by interest in the worldsheet Smatrix of string theory in AdS5 ×S 5 in the limit of infinite worldsheet volume we consider the semiclassical quantization of a particular soliton of this theory: the HofmanMaldacena ‘giant magnon ’ spinning string. We obtain explicit formulas for the complete spectrum of bosonic and fermionic fluctuations around the giant magnon. As an application of these results we confirm that the oneloop correction to the classical energy vanishes as expected. Contents
