"... In PAGE 3: ... Diagnostic criteria for the distinctive clinical MEM syndromes followed those defined by Rowland (13) for Kearns-Sayre Syndrome and PEO, revised by Moraes (14), and by Pavlakis (15) for MELAS. The muscle samples were also subjected to spectrophotometric determination of respiratory chain enzyme activities ( Table1 ) as described previously (16). Each patient signed an informed consent, approved by our Institutional IRB, at the time of muscle biopsy that specifies the use of part of his/her muscle tissue for research purposes.... In PAGE 5: ... RESULTS Patients and clinical data The study was performed using muscle biopsy samples from 12 patients affected by mitochondrial encephalomyopathy. Four patients presented with PEO associated with mitochondrial DNA single macrodeletion on the Southern blot analysis of muscle DNA, four had PEO associated with heteroplasmic A3243G mtDNA mutation, and four were affected by MELAS and carried the same A3243G mtDNA mutation ( Table1 ). The level of mtDNA heteroplasmy did not differ between the two A3243G-related groups.... ..."

by Strategy To Optimally, Vikas Prabhakar, Ishan Capila, Rahul Raman, Aravind Srinivasan, Carlos J. Bosques, Kevin Pojasek, Michael A. Wrick, Ram Sasisekharan 2006
"... In PAGE 8: ... Calcium is important for the optimal depolymerization of DS, as seen with the mutants Asp442Ala and Asp444Ala. Our attempts to collect kinetic data on the mutants Asp442Ala and Asp444Ala indicated that these mutants have negligible activity against DS ( Table4 ). These residues are both within coordination proximity to the cABC I active site and the IdoA carboxylate and are inactive against DS, irrespective of the presence of divalent ions.... ..."

"... In PAGE 7: ...ig. 3. Electron micrograph of isolated Golgi apparatus. X16 700. Bar, 1 /an. original homogenate ( Table1 ). More importantly, very little or none of this enzyme activity was found in the intracellular organelles, suggesting that microvillus plasma membrane contamination in the intracellular organelles was minimal to non-existent.... ..."

"... In PAGE 4: ... In sonic hedgehog, two H9252-strands that are both located upstream of the core motif in sequence extend the four-stranded antipa- rallel H9252-sheet to a six-stranded mixed H9252-sheet with one strand at the top running parallel to strand 1 and one strand at the bottom running antiparallel to strand 3. Zn2+ ligands The active sites of LAS enzymes are shown in Figure 2 and summarized in Table1 . In all structures, the central Zn2+ is tetrahedrally coordinated by two histidines, an aspartate and a fourth ligand.... ..."
