Automatic Verification of Pipelined Microprocessor Control

by Jerry Burch, David Dill , 1994
"... We describe a technique for verifying the control logic of pipelined microprocessors. It handles more complicated designs, and requires less human intervention, than existing methods. The technique automaticMly compares a pipelined implementation to an architectural description. The CPU time nee ..."

Stress, coping and social support processes: Where are we? What next?

by Peggy A Thoits - Journal of Health and Social Behavior, , 1995
"... JSTOR is a not-for-profit service that helps scholars, researchers, and students discover, use, and build upon a wide range of content in a trusted digital archive. We use information technology and tools to increase productivity and facilitate new forms of scholarship. For more information about J ..."

On Being 'Undigital' With Digital Cameras: Extending Dynamic Range By Combining Differently Exposed Pictures

by S. Mann, R. W. Picard - PROCEEDINGS OF IS&T , 1995
"... Most everyday scenes have a far greater dynamic range than can be recorded on a photographic film or electronic imaging apparatus (whether it be a digital still camera, video, etc.). However, a set of pictures, that are identical except for their exposure, collectively show us much more dynamic rang ..."

of dynamic range we are accustomed to seeing in typical floating point representations, as opposed to the integer images from which it was generated. The method is completely automatic; it requires no human intervention, and it requires no knowledge of the response function of the imaging device. It works

The need for control of population growth is quite pressing for India, as it hampers the country’s growth prospects and leads to sustenance of poverty and unemployment, etc. Hence, India was the fi rst nation to have offi cially launched the family planning programme. However, the health care system created for delivery of various health and family welfare services has not been effective enough to curtail the enormous population growth as well as to better the general health standards of the common masses. The article analyses in detail the various factors responsible for it. It brings out the lacuna in the health system as well as the unmet needs and defi ciencies at different levels. The article not only throws light on the qualitative inadequacies in the health manpower but also suggests certain measures to enhance their effectiveness.

Deriving Production Rules for Constraint Maintenance

by Stefano Ceri, Jennifer Widom , 1990
"... . Traditionally, integrity constraints in database systems are maintained either by rolling back any transaction that produces an inconsistent state or by disallowing or modifying operations that may produce an inconsistent state. An alternative approach is to provide automatic "repair " o ..."

into constraint-maintaining production rules. Some parts of the translation are automatic while other parts require user intervention. Based on the semantics of our set-oriented production rules language and under certain assumptions, we prove that at the end of each transaction the rules are guaranteed

Surface Modeling with Oriented Particle Systems

by Richard Szeliski, David Tonnesen - COMPUTER GRAPHICS , 1991
"... Splines and deformable surface models are widely used in computer graphics to describe free-form surfaces. These methods require manual preprocessing to discretize the surface into patches and to specify their connectivity. We present a new model of elastic surfaces based on interacting particle sys ..."

Consed: a graphical tool for sequence finishing

by David Gordon , Chris Abajian , Phil Green - Genome Res , 1998
"... Sequencing of large clones or small genomes is generally done by the shotgun approach Although complete automation of data processing in shotgun sequencing is clearly desirable and may be feasible in the near future, at present finishing still requires extensive human intervention. Mean Shift Analysis and Applications

by Dorin Comaniciu, Peter Meer , 1999
"... A nonparametric estimator of density gradient, the mean shift, is employed in the joint, spatial-range (value) domain of gray level and color images for discontinuity preserving filtering and image segmentation. Properties of the mean shift are reviewed and its convergence on lattices is proven. The ..."

Since convergence is guaranteed, the technique does not require the intervention of the user to stop the filtering at the desired image quality. Several examples, for gray and color images, show the versatilityofthe method and compare

Technological capabilities and industrialization

by Sanjaya Lall - World Development , 1992
"... Summary – This paper reviews the implications for industrial strategy of recent research on technological capabilities at the firm and national levels. After exploring the nature and determinants of microlevel technological development, a simple framework for explaining the growth of national capabi ..."

The experience of some industrializing countries is described to assess the validity of this framework. It is concluded that interventions

Estimating mediated effects in prevention studies

by David P. Mackinnon, James H. Dwyer - CURRENT DIRECTIONS IN PSYCHOLOGY , 1993
