Multipoint quantitative-trait linkage analysis in general pedigrees
- Am. J. Hum. Genet
, 1998
"... Multipoint linkage analysis of quantitative-trait loci (QTLs) has previously been restricted to sibships and small pedigrees. In this article, we show how variance-component linkage methods can be used in pedigrees of arbitrary size and complexity, and we develop a general framework for multipoint i ..."

Multiplexed protein quantitation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using aminereactive isobaric tagging reagents,”
- Molecular and Cellular Proteomics,
, 2004
"... We describe here a multiplexed protein quantitation strategy that provides relative and absolute measurements of proteins in complex mixtures. At the core of this methodology is a multiplexed set of isobaric reagents that yield amine-derivatized peptides. The derivatized peptides are indistinguisha ..."

utilizing MS and a host of stable isotope-labeling chemistries have emerged (reviewed in Refs. 1 and 2), offering a departure from traditional techniques employing comparative two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. The ICAT quantitative labeling strategy (3, 4) is perhaps the best-characterized method
Clustering of the Self-Organizing Map
, 2000
"... The self-organizing map (SOM) is an excellent tool in exploratory phase of data mining. It projects input space on prototypes of a low-dimensional regular grid that can be effectively utilized to visualize and explore properties of the data. When the number of SOM units is large, to facilitate quant ..."

Resource allocation and cross-layer control in wireless networks
- Foundations and Trends in Networking
, 2006
"... Information flow in a telecommunication network is accomplished through the interaction of mechanisms at various design layers with the end goal of supporting the information exchange needs of the applications. In wireless networks in particular, the different layers interact in a nontrivial manner ..."

network control policies. Quantitative performance measures that capture the quality of service requirements in these systems depending on the supported applications are discussed, including throughput maximization, energy consumption minimization, rate utility function maximization as well as general
Printed in Great Britain THE QUANTITATIVE UTILIZATION OF AMINO ACIDS AND GLUCOSE AND CONTACT INHIBITION OF GROWTH IN CULTURES OF
"... There are many reports in the literature showing that contact inhibition of growth is affected by the culture medium. A quantitative study of amino acid and glucose uptake by the human diploid cell line, WI-38 was carried out to determine more precisely what effect nutritional factors have on contac ..."

Plenoptic sampling
- In SIGGRAPH
, 2000
"... This paper studies the problem of plenoptic sampling in imagebased rendering (IBR). From a spectral analysis of light field signals and using the sampling theorem, we mathematically derive the analytical functions to determine the minimum sampling rate for light field rendering. The spectral support ..."

rendering. More significantly, it utilizes the scene depth information to determine the minimum sampling curve in the joint image and geometry space. The minimum sampling curve quantitatively describes the relationship among three key elements in IBR systems: scene complexity (geometrical and textural
Comparative Evaluation of the Quantitative Utilization of Parenterally and Enterally Administered Leucine and L-[1-13C,5N]Leucine Within the Whole Body and the Splanchnic Region

Background: The purpose of this study was to quantify the kinetic aspects of leucine metabolism in the whole body and within the splanchnic region when an amino acid mixture is administered by the enteral route as compared with administration by the parenteral route. ABSTRACT. Background: The purpose of this study was to quantify the kinetic aspects of leucine metabolism in the whole body and within the splanchnic region when an amino acid mixture is administered by the enteral route as compared with administration by the parenteral route. Methods: Seven chronically catheterized dogs were studied during an intragastric infusion of L-[1-13C,5N]leucine with 0.24 g of complete amino acid mixture(kg—1 ·hdash 1) for 6 hours. The results are compared with those previously reported for nine dogs studied under essentially identical experimental conditions except that the tracer and amino acid mixtures were given by vein. Results: At the whole body level, the various parameters of leucine metabolism (flux, oxidation, and disappearance into and release from proteins) were not significantly different among animals that were infused enterally and those that were infused parenterally. Leucine metabolism within the splanchnic region and gut was more
Investment, capacity utilization, and the real business cycle
- American Economic Review
, 1988
"... This paper adopts Keynes ' view that shocks to the marginal efficiency of investment are important for business fluctuations, but incorporates it in a neoclassical framework with endogenous capacity utilization. Increases in the efficiency of newly produced investment goods stimulate the format ..."

Toward a Logic for Qualitative Decision Theory
- In Proceedings of the KR'94
, 1992
"... We present a logic for representing and reasoning with qualitative statements of preference and normality and describe how these may interact in decision making under uncertainty. Our aim is to develop a logical calculus that employs the basic elements of classical decision theory, namely proba ..."

Preferences and judgements of normality are captured in a modal/conditional logic, and a simple model of action is incorporated. Without quantitative information, decision
The [14C]deoxyglucose method for the measurement of local cerebral glucose utilization: theory, procedure, and normal values in the conscious and anesthetized albino rat
- J Neurochem. 1977;28:897
"... Abstract-A method has been developed for the simultaneous measurement of the rates of glucose consumption in the various structural and functional components of the brain in vivo. The method can be applied to most laboratory animals in the conscious state. It is based on the use of z-deoxy-~ [' ..."
