The quality of the solution found by ANTS is actually comparable with that of TS, except for problem PHIL09; we must notice however that this instance is much bigger than the other ones and, given the comparatively long time taken by the local optimization alone, the 1200 seconds allowed are not enough to effectively start the trail updating mechanism, thus turning ANTS into a simple multistart approach. In summary, Table1 testifies the comparative good performance of the ANTS algorithm. On all test problems, under the imposed computational constraints (CPU time), it found a good solution and exhibited more stable results among those produced by the tested algorithms.... ..."

Table 1. Concrete scenarios satisfied by discussed redundancy patterns The patterns presented so far involved redundancy in some form in order to detect and tolerate faults and so to increase the reliability of a system. In the following, we present two patterns that manly contribute to safety by providing means for detecting and handling failures and faults and for managing safety processes.

Table 2: Stream Bu er Miss Rates In many current systems, the miss penalties are considerably greater than this (private commu- nication, Larry McVoy), so that the results presented here actually understate the speedup that might be achieved by these various latency tolerating techniques.

Table 1 lists some of the expected model sub-type names. Suggested 3 letter extensions are also provided for DOS compatibility but their need is hopefully diminished by the use of more robust operating systems on PC platforms. The quot;silo quot; extension is provided for backwards compatibility. Mesh has an extensive list of hints since the present variability is so great. In the future, the need for these hints will diminish since the files are self describing. This document is not registering these subtypes. They will be handled under separate documents.
