The role of deliberate practice in the acquisition of expert performance
- Psychological Review

The theoretical framework presented in this article explains expert performance as the end result of individuals ' prolonged efforts to improve performance while negotiating motivational and external constraints. In most domains of expertise, individuals begin in their childhood a regimen of ef ..."

Review Of The Satisfaction With Life Scale
, 2009

The SWLS is recommended as a complement to scales that focus on psychopathology or emotional well-being because

Neuropathic pain (NP) is a wide term, associated with damage to peripheral nerves, spinal nerves and to the central nervous system (CNS). It is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality and its prevalence is continuously increasing in industrialised nations. It is characterised by allodynia, hyperalgesia and hyperpathia leading to sympathetic dysfunction and dystrophic changes. Number of synthetic drugs are used in the management of neuropathic pain but are of no use as they elicit several adverse effects. Hence the present review delineated with the management of neuropathic pain by the aid of herbal drugs and few newer synthetic drugs that are efficacious and potent.

This paper reviews publications and research reports on how sub-Saharan African families have been affected by, and reacted to, the AIDS epidemic. The nature of the African family and its variation across the regions is shown to be basic to both an understanding of how the epidemic spread and of its impact. The volume of good social science research undertaken until now on the disease in Africa is shown to be extremely small relative to the need. The African AIDS epidemic may well be regarded in retrospect as the major event of our time. Almost two-thirds of all HIV-positive persons in the world are in sub-Saharan Africa, the home of only nine per cent of the world’s population. Indeed, most African AIDS sufferers are found in a range of countries from Uganda southward which contain no more than three per cent of the world’s population. Sub-Saharan Africa may well lose as many people to AIDS over the next half century as the Black Death killed in fourteenth-century Europe, although without resulting in the population decline that characterized the earlier epidemic. The African AIDS epidemic differs from that of industrialized countries in that it is very largely heterosexually transmitted. Thus there are at least as many female as male victims in Africa. It is likely
Review of Potential Interventions to Reduce Child Mortality

These include: • aggressive promotion of exclusive breastfeeding for the first 4-6 months of life • improved
Potential interventions in sepsis-related acute kidney injury
- Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology
, 2008
"... Sepsis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Acute kidney injury often complicates sepsis, leading to greater complexity, cost of care, and worsening prognosis. In recent years, a consensus definition of acute kidney injury has been developed, facilitating research into the pathophysiolo ..."
