Exceptional Exporter Performance: Cause, Effect or Both
- Journal of International Economics
, 1999
"... A growing body of empirical work has documented the superior performance characteristics of exporting plants and firms relative to non-exporters. Employment, shipments, wages, productivity and capital intensity are all higher at exporters at any given moment. This paper asks whether good firms becom ..."

Aging: a theory based on free radical and radiation chemistry
- J Gerontol
, 1956
"... The phenomenon of growth, decline and death-aging-has been the source of consider-able speculation (1, 8, 10). This cycle seems to be a more or less direct function of the meta-bolic rate and this in turn depends on the species (animal or plant) on which are super-imposed the factors of heredity and ..."

Foreign Direct Investment and Relative Wages: Evidence from Mexico’s Maquiladoras
- Journal of International Economics
, 1997
"... In this paper, we examine the increase in relative wages for skilled workers in Mexico during the 1980s. Rising wage inequality in Mexico is linked to foreign capital inflows. We study the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the skilled labor share of wages in Mexico over 1975–1988. We meas ..."

measure FDI using regional data on foreign assembly plants. Growth in FDI is positively correlated with the relative demand for skilled labor. In regions where FDI has concentrated, growth in FDI can account for over 50 percent of the increase in the skilled labor wage share that occurred in the late 1980

Fusion Systems Corporation has developed a mercury-free, low infra-red, efficient microwave lamp using a benign sulfur based fill optimized for visible light. Our literature search and discussions with researchers directed us to enhance the bulbs red output. We have demonstrated a photosynthetic efficacy of over 2 micro-moles per microwave joule which corresponds to over 1.3 micro-moles per joule at the power main.

Plant growth and carbon economy
- In Encyclopedia of Life Sciences, Macmillan Publishers, Nature Publishing Group
, 2002
"... Plant growth can be defined as the increase in biomass over time. The rate of growth depends on the daily amount of carbon fixed in photosynthesis, the amount of carbon used for respiration as well as the carbon concentration of the newly formed material. ..."
