ROAD DETECTION IN AN OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT

by unknown authors
"... Abstract: This paper deals with road detection in an outdoor environment. By comparison with preceding approaches, which use various sensors, our system uses only a monocular camera. In this paper, we propose a novel approach- a fusion of frequency based vanishing point estimation and probabilistica ..."

The paper presents an approach to reactive navigation in crosscountry terrains. The approach relies on a particular probabilistic obstacle detection procedure, that describes the area perceived by a pair of stereo cameras as a set of polygonal cells. To generate the motion commands on the basis of this terrain description, we present some improvements and adaptations to the classical potential elds technique. The algorithms have been implemented within an instance of a generic software architecture, and experimented with the robot Lama. 1 1

GPS-Less Low Cost Outdoor Localization for Very Small Devices.

by Nirupama Bulusu , John Heidemann , Deborah Estrin - IEEE Personal Communications Magazine, , 2000
"... Abstract-Instrumenting the physical world through large networks of wireless sensor nodes, particularly for applications like environmental monitoring of water and soil, requires that these nodes be very small, light, untethered and unobtrusive. The problem of localization, i.e., determining where ..."

in these networks. In this paper, we review localization techniques and evaluate the effectiveness of a very simple connectivity-metric method for localization in outdoor environments that makes use of the inherent radio-frequency (RF) communications capabilities of these devices. A fixed number of reference points

Mobility enhanced localization in outdoor environments

by Dawei Liu, Moon-chuen Lee , 2008
"... There is recently an increasing interest in applications based on localization of mobile objects in outdoor environment. Many existing localization solutions rely primarily on a hybrid wireless network/dead reckoning (DR) scheme, as the regular wireless network can hardly estimate a position with sa ..."
