Genetic algorithms in noisy environments

by J. Michael Fitzpatrick, John J. Grefenstette - Machine Learning 3 , 1988
"... Abstract. Genetic algorithms are adaptive search techniques which have been used to learn high-performance knowledge structures in reactive environments that pro-vide information in the form of payoff. In general, payoff can be viewed as a noisy function of the structure being evaluated, and the lea ..."

Distance Bounding in Noisy Environments

by Bart Preneel - In Proceedings of the 4th European Workshop on Security and Privacy in Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks (ESAS ’07), Lecture Notes in Computer Science, LNCS 4572 , 2007
"... Abstract. Location information can be used to enhance mutual entity authentication protocols in wireless ad-hoc networks. More specifically, distance bounding protocols have been introduced by Brands and Chaum at Eurocrypt’93 to preclude distance fraud and mafia fraud attacks, in which a local imper ..."

protocol. The main idea is to use binary codes to correct bit errors occurring during the fast bit exchanges. Our protocol is perfectly suitable to be employed in noisy wireless environments such as RFID.

Maintaining Cooperation in Noisy Environments

by Tsz-chiu Au, Dana Nau

To prevent or alleviate conflicts in multi-agent environ-ments, it is important to distinguish between situations where another agent has misbehaved intentionally and situations where the misbehavior was accidental. One situation where this problem arises is the Noisy Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma, a ..."

We investigate the emergent behavior of four types of generic dynamical systems under random environmental perturbations. Sufficient conditions for nearly-emergence in various scenarios are presented. Recent fundamental works of F. Cucker and S. Smale on the construction and analysis of flocking models directly inspired our present work. Keywords: emergence; Cucker-Smale model; dynamical system; flocking; multiagent system; consensus problems; random noise; linguistic evolution.
