Impact of High Altitude Platform Movement on

by unknown authors
"... Abstract- This paper investigates the effects of station keeping in a broadband multi-beam High Altitude Platform (HAP) architecture. Results have shown that due to the HAP movements, the handoff and dropping probability increases. The increase becomes more significant when the HAP speed increases. ..."

Telecommunications over High Altitude Platforms

by Gorazd K, Aleš Švigelj, Mihael Mohorčič
"... Provision of broadband services is raising increasing challenges, particularly in operating environments requiring wireless access. In this context an emerging solution based on aerial platforms is attracting increasing amounts of research effort. This concept combines some of the best characteristi ..."

(HAPS) is a candidate of post-3G (4G or 5G) wireless communication systems, aiming at creating a new broadcast and communications integrated infrastructure. To provide higher data rate and QoS guarantee to mobile multimedia users, we propose an ATM-based broadband wireless communication system. In order to show the feasibility and investigate the key issues of such an ATM-based HAPS, we have also developed a demonstration system based on a 15m X 4.3m remote-controlled airship. By installing a remote-controlled video camera, a wireless HUB, and a transmitter of digital TV in this airship, we demonstrate a broadband integrated information system which includes (1) remote sensing of the ground, (2) broadband wireless Internet access, and (3) mobile multimedia communication with QoS control. Throughout the demonstration, we mainly investigated the performance improvement by two ATM-based scheduling

Broadband Communications and Applications from High Altitude Platforms

by A. Mohammed, Z. Yang - International Journal of Recent Trends in Engineering, Vol , 2009
"... Abstract—In this paper, we give an overview of using High Altitude Platforms (HAPs) for providing wireless telecommunication and broadband communication services. Comparisons of HAPs, satellite and terrestrial systems are shown to illustrate unique characteristics of the system. Three architectures ..."

Resource Allocation Techniques for High Altitude Platforms

by Konstantinos Katzis , 2005
"... This work examines various ways to deliver efficient and practical resource allocation techniques for a broadband multi-beam High Altitude Platform (HAP) communication system using frequencies in the LMDS band (28GHz) and above. The hypothesis being tested is that HAP communication systems can take ..."

A high-altitude, station-keeping astronomical platform

by Robert A. Fesen A , 2006
"... Several commercial telecommunication ventures together with a well funded US military program make it a likely possibility that an autonomous, high-altitude, light-than-air (LTA) vehicle which could maneuver and stationkeep for weeks to many months will be a reality in a few years. Here I outline ho ..."

by T. G. Guzik, S. Besse, A. Calongne, A. Dominique, S. B. Ellison, R. Gould, D. Granger, D. Olano, M. Stewart, J. P. Wefel , 2006
"... The High Altitude Student Platform (HASP) was originally conceived to provide student groups with access to the near-space environment for flight durations and experiment capabilities intermediate between what is possible with small sounding balloons and low Earth orbit rocket launches. Wireless Communications from High Altitude Platforms

by Tarulata H. Chauhan, Sudhir Agarwal, Suchit Purohit, Amit Kumar
"... Abstract — The demand for wireless communication is increasing day by day. People want a high speed of communication in less time. No one is interested in use of bunch of wires. So we move to wireless communication. As technology increases a demand also increases. Now everyone wants a fast communica ..."
