We consider maintaining the contour tree T of a piecewise-linear triangulation M that is the graph of a time varying height function h: R2 → R. We carefully describe the combinatorial change in T that happen as h varies over time and how these changes relate to topological changes in M. We present a kinetic data structure that maintains the contour tree of h over time. Our data structure maintains certificates that fail only when h(v) = h(u) for two adjacent vertices v and u in M, or when two saddle vertices lie on the same contour of M. A certificate failure is handled in O(log(n)) time. We also show how our data structure can be extended to handle a set of general update operations on M and how it can be applied to maintain topological persistence pairs of time varying functions.
Dynamic Terrain Generation Based on Multifractal Techniques
"... The work, described in this paper, covers three topics: real-world terrain analysis, synthetic terrain generation based upon the results of the analysis stage, and dynamic terrain generation. Each topic involves the theory of multifractals. First, a summary of four known fractal-based techniques for ..."

Next century challenges: Scalable coordination in sensor networks
, 1999

Real-time visualization of dynamic terrain for ground vehicle simulation
, 2000
"... In ground vehicle simulation, real-time, high fidelity visualization of the terrain is required. To achieve this, a hierarchical multi-resolution representation of the terrain is established, and then approximation meshes of the terrain are extracted from the hierarchy, guided by some error metrics. ..."

3D DYNAMIC TERRAIN VISUALIZATION OF ISLAND AREAS
"... There are multi-source data in island areas, such as land DEM, bathymetry and sea level data from tidal stations. Different data have different spatial references, especially in vertical datums. To visualize the different data in a system, those data needed to be converted into a same spatial refere ..."

reference. This paper presents a methodology to integrate multi-source data of island areas. To visualize the dynamic sea surface, this paper introduces a numerical tidal harmonic analysis and predication model to calculate the instantaneous sea level of tidal stations. With the discrete sea level points
DEVELOPING A FRAMEWORK FOR IG-INDEPENDENT PC-BASED DYNAMIC TERRAIN
"... Dynamic terrain is the ability to modify a terrain database in real-time. In the past, effects such as explosions did not alter the surface topology of the terrain by creating craters. The tracks and tires from vehicles did not leave ruts in areas with soft soil. This limited the training value of g ..."
