Lifting assertion and consistency checkers from single to multiple viewpoints

by Michael Huth , 2002
"... Using a priority preorder on requirements or specifications, we lift established property-verification techniques of threevalued model checking from single to multiple viewpoints. This lift guarantees a maximal degree of autonomy and accountability to single views, automatically synthesizes single-a ..."

-analysis results for multiple-view consistency and assertion checking, allows the re-use of single-view technology (e.g. standard model checkers), and transforms many meta-results (e.g. soundness of abstraction) from the singleview to the multiple-view setting. We formulate assertionconsistency lattices as a

HyTech: A Model Checker for Hybrid Systems

by Thomas A. Henzinger, Pei-Hsin Ho, Howard Wong-toi - Software Tools for Technology Transfer , 1997
"... A hybrid system is a dynamical system whose behavior exhibits both discrete and continuous change. A hybrid automaton is a mathematical model for hybrid systems, which combines, in a single formalism, automaton transitions for capturing discrete change with differential equations for capturing conti ..."

continuous change. HyTech is a symbolic model checker for linear hybrid automata, a subclass of hybrid automata that can be analyzed automatically by computing with polyhedral state sets. A key feature of HyTech is its ability to perform parametric analysis, i.e. to determine the values of design parameters

Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems An Incremental File System Consistency Checker for Block-Level CDP Systems

by Maohua Lu, Tzi-cker Chiueh, Shibiao Lin
"... A block-level continuous data protection (CDP) system logs every disk block update from an application server (e.g., a file or DBMS server) to a storage system so that any disk updates within a time window are undoable, and thus is able to provide a more flexible and efficient data protection servic ..."

service than conventional periodic data backup systems. Unfortunately, no existing block-level CDP systems can support arbitrary point-in-time snapshots that are guaranteed to be consistent with respect to the metadata of the application server. This deficiency seriously limits the flexibility in recovery

A Consistency Checker for a Fuzzy Diagnosis System Applied to Warm Rolling-Mills in Steelmaking Plants

Technical diagnosis is often confronted with machines that still work but should possibly be repaired to increase efficiency or to avoid general failure. Postmortem repair strategies are usually too late and tend to increase costs. Prophylactic maintenance of machinery at regular intervals does not lead to unexpected breakdowns but is equally costly. The best strategy would be repairing or replacing defective equipment at a certain optimal point in time usually shortly before imminent failure, the latter being in general difficult to predict correctly. However, it is possible to monitor and capture various parameters coming from the equipment through sensors and to establish some connection between these and the danger of such failure. Nevertheless, given a diagnosis problem, it is usually difficult to choose a priori parameters describing how the available data should be considered. Counterintuitive small changes in the parameters can have chaotic effects on maintenance decisions. We ...

Automatically validating temporal safety properties of interfaces

by Thomas Ball, Sriram K. Rajamani , 2001
"... We present a process for validating temporal safety properties of software that uses a well-defined interface. The process requires only that the user state the property of interest. It then automatically creates abstractions of C code using iterative refinement, based on the given property. The pro ..."
