Nonrigid registration using free-form deformations: Application to breast MR images

by D. Rueckert, L. I. Sonoda, C. Hayes, D. L. G. Hill, M. O. Leach, D. J. Hawkes - IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging , 1999
"... Abstract — In this paper we present a new approach for the nonrigid registration of contrast-enhanced breast MRI. A hierarchical transformation model of the motion of the breast has been developed. The global motion of the breast is modeled by an affine transformation while the local breast motion i ..."

nonrigid registration algorithm to those obtained using rigid and affine registration techniques. The results clearly indicate that the nonrigid registration algorithm is much better able to recover the motion and deformation of the breast than rigid or affine registration algorithms. I.

The unity and diversity of executive functions and their contributions to complex “Frontal Lobe” tasks: a latent variable analysis

by Akira Miyake, Naomi P. Friedman, Michael J. Emerson, Alexander H. Witzki, Amy Howerter, Tor D. Wager - COGNIT PSYCHOL , 2000
"... This individual differences study examined the separability of three often postulated executive functions—mental set shifting ("Shifting"), information updating and monitoring ("Updating"), and inhibition of prepotent responses ("Inhibition")—and their roles in complex ..."

Sorting Test (WCST), Tower of Hanoi (TOH), random number generation (RNG), operation span, and dual tasking. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the three target executive functions are moderately correlated with one another, but are clearly separable. Moreover, structural equation modeling

Some informational aspects of visual perception

by Fred Attneave - Psychol. Rev , 1954
"... The ideas of information theory are at present stimulating many different areas of psychological inquiry. In providing techniques for quantifying situations which have hitherto been difficult or impossible to quantify, they suggest new and more precise ways of conceptualizing these situations (see M ..."

Miller [12] for a general discussion and bibliography). Events ordered in time are particularly amenable to informational analysis; thus language sequences are being extensively studied, and other sequences, such as those of music, plainly invite research. In this paper I shall indicate some of the ways

The use of MMR, diversity-based reranking for reordering documents and producing summaries

by Jaime Carbonell, Jade Goldstein - In SIGIR , 1998
"... jadeQcs.cmu.edu Abstract This paper presents a method for combining query-relevance with information-novelty in the context of text retrieval and summarization. The Maximal Marginal Relevance (MMR) criterion strives to reduce redundancy while maintaining query relevance in re-ranking retrieved docum ..."

documents and in selecting apprw priate passages for text summarization. Preliminary results indicate some benefits for MMR diversity ranking in document retrieval and in single document summarization. The latter are borne out by the recent results of the SUMMAC conference in the evaluation of summarization

Enhanced hypertext categorization using hyperlinks

by Soumen Chakrabarti, Byron Dom, Piotr Indyk , 1998
"... A major challenge in indexing unstructured hypertext databases is to automatically extract meta-data that enables structured search using topic taxonomies, circumvents keyword ambiguity, and improves the quality of search and profile-based routing and filtering. Therefore, an accurate classifier is ..."

is an essential component of a hypertext database. Hyperlinks pose new problems not addressed in the extensive text classification literature. Links clearly contain high-quality semantic clues that are lost upon a purely term-based classifier, but exploiting link information is non-trivial because it is noisy

of Health Consensus Criteria for the Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Clear Indication of the Adjuvant

by Dong Kyung Chang
"... on the NIH consensus criteria are re-classified into the high risk group. Based on the NIH consensus criteria, cases with mitotic count>10/50 high power fields (HPF) and tumor size>10 cm, or those with mitotic count>5/50 HPF and tumor size>5 cm are classified as the high risk group. This ..."

on the NIH consensus criteria are re-classified into the high risk group. Based on the NIH consensus criteria, cases with mitotic count>10/50 high power fields (HPF) and tumor size>10 cm, or those with mitotic count>5/50 HPF and tumor size>5 cm are classified as the high risk group. This classification maintains identically only when GISTs are lo-cated in the stomach according to the modified NIH criteria. In contrast, when GISTs are detected in organs other than the stomach, cases with tumor size>5 cm are included in the high risk group, regardless of the mitotic count. If the mi-totic activity is>5/50 HPF in the GISTs involving non-gastric organs cases with tumor size>2 cm are also classified into the high risk group. Thus, some non-gastric GISTs formerly grouped as the intermediate risk group are re-classified as the high risk group. All cases with the presence of a tumor rupture are classified as the high risk group, as well in the modified NIH consensus criteria. The need for re-classification has been raised to accurately determine the postoperative adjuvant Imatinib group. Al-though the effectiveness of postoperative adjuvant Imatinib has been clarified in the high risk group for GISTs, it still re-mains unclear in the intermediate risk group. The 2012 Na-tional Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline recommends postoperative adjuvant therapy for patients based on the following study results.4

Practical Issues in Temporal Difference Learning

by Gerald Tesauro - Machine Learning , 1992
"... This paper examines whether temporal difference methods for training connectionist networks, such as Suttons's TD(lambda) algorithm can be successfully applied to complex real-world problems. A number of important practical issues are identified and discussed from a general theoretical perspect ..."

Variables that should in theory determine credit spread changes have rather limited explanatory power. Further, the residuals from this regression are ..."

Measuring and Reducing Energy Consumption of Network Interfaces in Hand-Held Devices

by Mark Stemm, Randy H. Katz , 1997

In this paper we examine this issue from the point of view of the Network Interface (NI). We measure the power usage of two PDAs, the Apple Newton Messagepad and Sony Magic Link, a ..."
