We consider the channel estimation issue in a multiple inputs multiple outputs (MIMO) system using bitinterleaved coded modulation (BICM) scheme at transmitter and iterative detection based on maximum a posteriori (MAP) at receiver. Channel coefficients are updated in each iteration, using a semiblind estimation technique based on the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. We first consider a previously proposed approach based on EM, and show its disadvantages. We then propose a modification to it that provides an unbiased channel estimate and permits a better convergence of the iterative receiver. The proposed modification is of special interest for small ratios of pilottodata sequences length.
Compression of binary sources with side information using lowdensity paritycheck codes
 in Proc. Global Telecommunications Conf
, 2002
"... Abstract—We show how lowdensity paritycheck (LDPC) codes can be used to compress close to the Slepian–Wolf limit for correlated binary sources. Focusing on the asymmetric case of compression of an equiprobable memoryless binary source with side information at the decoder, the approach is based o ..."

Where Are the Binary Source Gravitational Microlensing Events? II
, 1998
"... The gravitational microlensing light curve deviates from the ideal Paczyński form if either the lens or the source is composed of binaries: binary lens and binary source lensing events. Currently, 6 candidate binary lens events have been reported, while the frequency of binary source events is relat ..."

Planetary Microlensing Perturbations: True Planets or Binary Sources?
, 1997
"... A planetary microlensing event is characterized by a shortlived perturbation to the standard Paczyński curve. Planetary perturbations typically last from a few hours to a day, and have maximum amplitudes, δmax, of 5 − 20 % of the standard curve. There exist a subset of binarysource events that can ..."

 IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory

Binary Source Lensing and the Repeating OGLE EWS Events
, 2008
"... A microlensing event may exhibit a second brightening when the source and/or the lens is a binary star. Previous study revealed 19 such repeating event candidates among 4120 investigated microlensing light curves of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE). The same study gave the probabi ..."

Compression of Correlated Binary Sources Using Turbo Codes
"... AbstractWe propose the use of punctured turbo codes for compression of correlated binary sources. Compression is achieved because of puncturing. The resulting performance is close to the theoretical limit provided by the SlepianWolf theorem. No information about the correlation between sources is ..."

Algorithms for Almostuniform Generation with an Unbiased Binary Source
"... We consider the problem of uniform generation of random integers in the range [1; n] given only a binary source of randomness. Standard models of randomized algorithms (e.g. probabilistic Turing machines) assume the availability of a random binary source that can generate independent random bits in ..."
