The evolution of microprocessor architecture depends upon the changing aspects of technology. As die density and speed increase, memory and program behavior become increasingly important in defining architecture tradeoffs. While technology enables increasingly complex processor implementations, there are physical and program behavior limits to the usefulness of this complexity. Physical limits include device limits as well as practical limits on power and cost. Program behavior limits result from unpredictable events occurring during execution. Architectures and implementations that span these limits are vital to the continued evolution of the microprocessor. Keywords: microprocessor architecture, scaling, memory wall, cache limits, program behavior limits. Successful microprocessor implementations depend upon the processosr architect's ability to predict trends and advances in both technology and user behavior. Selecting an approach for a microprocessor implementation depend...
BASIC ISSUES IN LAGRANGIAN OPTIMIZATION
"... These lecture notes review the basic properties of Lagrange multipliers and constraints in problems of optimization from the perspective of how they influence the setting up of a mathematical model and the solution technique that may be chosen. Conventional problem formulations with equality and i ..."

Data provenance: some basic issues
- In Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science
, 2000
"... Abstract. The ease with which one can copy and transform data on the Web, has made it increasingly di cult to determine the origins of a piece of data. We use the term data provenance to refer to the process of tracing and recording the origins of data and its movement between databases. Provenance ..."

The Simple Economics of Basic Scientific Research
- Journal of Political Economy
, 1959
"... I begin this essay by reflecting on my early paper (Nelson, 1859), and Ken’s (Arrow, 1962), as period pieces. These papers certainly have been influential in shaping the discussion of science and technology policy over the last forty years, at least among economists, but at the time they were writte ..."

of this conference: issues relating to intellectual property. Both to link the discussion to my old paper, and because my own recent research has been focused there, I shall focus particularly on the patenting of “science”. Finally, I will consider the institutional division of labor in research and development
Distributed Database Systems
"... this article, we discuss the fundamentals of distributed DBMS technology. We address the data distribution and architectural design issues as well as the algorithms that need to be implemented to provide the basic DBMS functions such as query processing, concurrency control, reliability, and replica ..."

Monopolistic competition and optimum product diversity. The American Economic Review,
, 1977
"... The basic issue concerning production in welfare economics is whether a market solution will yield the socially optimum kinds and quantities of commodities. It is well known that problems can arise for three broad reasons: distributive justice; external effects; and scale economies. This paper is c ..."

For each category, we provide a basic anomaly detection technique, and then show how the different existing techniques
