Abstract: This paper describes a case to illustrate analysis, design, and implementation issues involving a multi-tier e-commerce system. The case is designed for use in advanced accounting systems or systems analysis and design courses. The case involves analysis of a sales order system that will be implemented using a web interface and relational database, conceptual design of the system, and implementation of the system. A variety of tasks are involved in the case, but an instructor can select the tasks of relevance in a particular course.

FIVE BROWSER INDEPENDENT TECHNIQUES FOR RETAINING APPLICATION STATE IN ACTIVE SERVER PAGE APPLICATIONS

by Kyle Lutes, Kyle D. Lutes
"... One major problem presented to web application developers is how to retain data between interactions with the user. This data, called state information, is not kept in memory because web applications use the HTTP protocol, which is stateless. So, developers of web-based applications typically employ ..."

employ one of several coding techniques to maintain state information. This paper describes five techniques that are commonly used to retain state in Active Server Pages (ASP) applications, along with each technique's relative advantages and disadvantages. Client techniques store state information

The application of Microsoft ® Active Server Page technology in the mining environment as a management information tool

by D. S. Richards
"... Computers have revolutionized the collection of data on modern mines. Never before has it been possible to collect data from all aspects of the mining value chain at rates now common. With this has come a new challenge. Deriving information from these copious amounts of data and disseminating it. Th ..."

the enormous amount of tools available in this environment, whether it’s for e-mail notification, reporting or data capture. Microsoft’s ® Active Server Pages are one of these tools. These are standards used to create dynamic and interactive web pages with links into databases and many other objects. The real

Managing Energy and Server Resources in Hosting Centers

by Jeffrey S. Chase, Darrell C. Anderson, Prachi N. Thakar, Amin M. Vahdat - In Proceedings of the 18th ACM Symposium on Operating System Principles (SOSP , 2001
"... Interact hosting centers serve multiple service sites from a common hardware base. This paper presents the design and implementation of an architecture for resource management in a hosting center op-erating system, with an emphasis on energy as a driving resource management issue for large server cl ..."

clusters. The goals are to provi-sion server resources for co-hosted services in a way that automati-cally adapts to offered load, improve the energy efficiency of server dusters by dynamically resizing the active server set, and respond to power supply disruptions or thermal events by degrading service

Web Server Workload Characterization: The Search for Invariants (Extended Version)

by Martin F. Arlitt, Carey L. Williamson , 1996
"... The phenomenal growth in popularity of the World Wide Web (WWW, or the Web) has made WWW traffic the largest contributor to packet and byte traffic on the NSFNET backbone. This growth has triggered recent research aimed at reducing the volume of network traffic produced by Web clients and servers, b ..."

These data sets represent three different orders of magnitude in server activity, and two different orders of magnitude in time duration, ranging from one week

Memory resource management in VMware ESX server,”

by Carl A Waldspurger - In Proc. of the 5th OSDI, , 2002

Stability properties of constrained queueing systems and scheduling policies for maximum throughput in multihop radio networks

by Ros Tassiulas, Anthony Ephremides - IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control , 1992
"... Abstruct-The stability of a queueing network with interdependent servers is considered. The dependency of servers is described by the definition of their subsets that can be activated simultaneously. Multihop packet radio networks (PRN’s) provide a motivation for the consideration of this system. We ..."
