Voice imitation is mimicry of another speaker’s voice characteristics and speech behavior. Professional voice mimicry can create entertaining, yet realistic sounding target speaker renditions. As mimicry tends to exaggerate prosodic, idiosyncratic and lexical behavior, it is unclear how modern spectral-feature automatic speaker verification systems respond to mimicry “attacks”. We study the vulnerability of two well-known speaker recognition systems, traditional Gaussian mixture model – universal background model (GMM-UBM) and a state-of-the-art i-vector classifier with cosine scoring. The material consists of one professional Finnish imitator impersonating five wellknown Finnish public figures. In a carefully controlled setting, mimicry attack does slightly increase the false acceptance rate for the i-vector system, but generally this is not alarmingly large in comparison to voice conversion or playback attacks. Index Terms: Voice imitation, speaker recognition, mimicry attack

BSTRACT In industry there is still lot of potential to make an energy system more efficient and thereby reduce the waste heat available. On the other hand there is an option to export the waste heat to another industry or to society. When the use of a heat exchanger network is considered for these tasks the optimization framework developed in this work can be implemented to calculate the cost of optimal investments. This thesis presents a framework for generating flexible heat exchanger networks (HEN) over a specified range of variations in the flow rates and temperatures of the streams, so that the total annual costs (TAC) as a result of utility charges, exchanger areas and selection of matches are minimized. The proposed framework includes (i) an initialization stage to reduce the problem size, (ii) a multiperiod simultaneous MINLP model to synthesize a flexible HEN configuration, (iii) a multiperiod LP feasibility test model to check the operability and identify critical conditions which are to be included in the possible resolve stage of the MINLP model, and (iv) an NLP improvement model for further optimization

The main objective of this thesis is to develop a systematic methodology for cost-effective thermal integration of production plant sections and the utility system of an industrial site. A production plant section is a subprocess of a production process that transforms materials into intermediate or end products. A production process is built up from a group of these sections or sub-processes linked together in a logical way. Typically a central utility system provides the utilities that the production sections need. The methodology developed in this thesis can analyze and optimize the energy system of this kind of total site. This is done in a manner such that the production volume of the production plant sections is unaffected. Heat can be transferred between and within the production plant

Customer initiated interorganizational information systems: the operational impacts and obstacles for small and medium sized suppliers

Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have typically remained outside integrated supply networks enabled by interorganizational information systems (IOISs). This paper investigates, by means of a case study, the operational impacts and implementation obstacles of customer initiated IOISs for SME suppliers. In particular, the paper compares the effectiveness of system-to-system and system-to-human integration. As a result we find that interorganizational system-to-human integration can provide operational benefits for non-initiating SMEs, but not as much as system-to-system integration. In addition, system-to-system integration appears elusive where resources are scarce and backend system capabilities limited. Key words: Interorganizational information systems, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), supply chain integration, system-to-human integration, system-to-system integration

Several characteristics of habitats of herbivores and their food-plant communities, such as plant-species composition and plant quality, influence population genetics of both herbivores and their host plants. We investigated how different ecological and geographic factors affect genetic variation in and differentiation of 23 populations of the oligophagous seed predator Lygaeus equestris (Heteroptera) in southwestern Finland and in eastern Sweden. We tested whether genetic differentiation of the L. equestris populations was related to the similarity of vegetation, and whether there was more within-population genetic variation in habitats with a high number of plant species or in those with a large population of the primary food plant, Vincetoxicum hirundinaria. We also tested whether genetic differentiation of the populations was related to the geographic distance, and whether location of the populations on islands or on mainland, island size, or population size affected within-population genetic variation. Pairwise FST ranged from 0 to 0.1 indicating low to moderate genetic differentiation of populations. Differentiation increased with geographic distance between the populations, but was not related to the similarity of vegetation between the habitats. Genetic variation within the L. equestris populations did not increase with the population size of the primary food plant. However, the more diverse the plant community the higher was the level of genetic variation within the L. equestris population. Furthermore, the level of genetic variation did not vary significantly between island and mainland populations. The effect of the population size on within-population genetic

industry and consumer behaviour in Saint Petersburg: Case study on Finnish bag company Borneo Colours Commissioned by Borneo Colours The aim of the thesis is to clarify Russian women’s attitudes towards the bags and purses of Borneo Colours and to find out if Saint Petersburg is a potential market area for the products. Concurrently, the thesis aims to invite reflection towards Russian markets. The theoretical section of this paper offers information about consumer behaviour and provides a review on fashion industry both in Russia and at the global level. The theoretical sections are applied into practise with a case study example, a small Finnish bag company Borneo Colours that is interested in the possibilities that Russia is able to offer. The empirical research is based on a qualitative method and the research was conducted in Saint Petersburg during spring 2013. In the research, opinions of Russian women and bag store managers concerning the products of Borneo Colours were studied in in-depth interviews. The sample consisted of ten Russian women aged between 30 to 50 years with middle or high level income and of five
