High-Level Fusion using Bayesian Networks: Applications in Command and Control
"... In this paper, we discuss how Bayesian networks can be used to develop automated situation-assessment tools suitable for use as decision aids in a command and control system. Inevitably, the introduction of a new technology raises a number of validation, systems integration and human-factors questio ..."

4 Studying Context: A Comparison of Activity Theory, Situated Action Models, and Distributed Cognition
"... It has been recognized that system design will benefit from explicit study of the context in which users work. The unaided individual divorced from a social group and from supporting artifacts is no longer the model user. But with this realization about the importance of context come many difficult ..."

Situated action models have a slightly behavioristic undercurrent in that it is the subject's reaction to the environment (the ``situation

Abstract We provide an overview and some recent results on real-time communication and control over Gaussian channels. In particular, the problem of remote stabilization of linear systems driven by Gaussian noise over Gaussian relay channels is considered. Necessary and sufficient conditions for mean-square stabilization are presented, which reveal signal-to-noise ratio requirements for stabilization which are tight in certain class of settings. Optimal linear policies are constructed, global optimality and sub-optimality of such policies are investigated in a variety of settings. We also consider the design of low-delay sensing and transmit schemes for real-time communication. 1.1

To address this problem, one task of this dis-sertation is to identify the basic components of sensornet messaging and to study the re-lated algorithmic
