Relative formality theorem and quantisation of coisotropic submanifolds

We prove a relative version of Kontsevich’s formality theorem. This theorem involves a manifold M and a submanifold C and reduces to Kontsevich’s theorem if C = M. It states that the DGLA of multivector fields on an infinitesimal neighbourhood of C is L∞quasiisomorphic to the DGLA of multidifferential operators acting on sections of the exterior algebra of the conormal bundle. Applications to the deformation quantisation of coisotropic submanifolds are given. The proof uses a duality transformation to reduce the theorem to a version of Kontsevich’s theorem for supermanifolds, which we also discuss. In physical language, the result states that there is a duality between the Poisson sigma model on a manifold with a Dbrane and the Poisson sigma model on a supermanifold without branes (or, more properly, with a brane which extends over the whole supermanifold).

The real cohomology of the space of imbeddings of S 1 into R n, n> 3, is studied both by using configuration space integrals and by considering the restriction of classes defined on the corresponding spaces of immersions. Nontrivial classes are explicitly constructed. The cohomology classes obtained by configuration space integrals generalize in a nontrivial way the Vassiliev knot invariants obtained in three dimensions from the Chern–Simons perturbation theory.

This paper examines whether and how viewers respond to changes in partisan bias in media news. We use data from Italy, where the main private television network is owned by Silvio Berlusconi, the leader of the centerright coalition, and the public television corporation is largely controlled by the ruling coalition. We first document that after the 2001 national elections, when the control of the government moved from the centerleft to the centerright, news content on public television shifted to the right. Using individual survey data, we find robust evidence that viewers responded to these changes by modifying their choice of favorite news programs. On the one hand, rightleaning viewers increased their propensity to watch public channels which, even after the change, remained to the left of private channels. On the other hand, leftwing viewers reacted by switching from the main public channel to another public channel that was controlled by the left during both periods. We show that this behavioral response, which tended to shift ideological exposure to the left, significantly, though only partially, offset the movement of public news content to the right.
Relationships between Governance Structure and Corporate Risks: Implications for Risk Management in Business Networks
"... Few researches on business networks have focused on risk management and stakeholders ’ risk exposure (Hutter and Power 2005; Miller, Kurunmäki and O’Leary 2006). This paper deals with the relationship between the governance structures of “networked ” entities and corporate risks. In particular, the ..."

In this paper, we carry out an econometric analysis on the adoption and effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) among a sample of Italian SMEs. An important result is that, in order to understand the main factors that drive SMEs to the adoption of ICTs, it is useful to divide the available technologies according to a taxonomy based on their typical function. Along with generaluse ICTs (email and Internet access), we identify two groups of technologies (labelled productionintegrating and marketoriented ICTs) the use of which is associated with different firm characteristics. In both cases, however, the availability of highly educated workers turns out to be a key factor. Policy implications are also discussed. 1

Abstract. We define algebraic structures on graph cohomology and prove that they correspond to algebraic structures on the cohomology of the spaces of imbeddings of S 1 or R into R n. As a corollary, we deduce the existence of an infinite number of nontrivial cohomology classes in Imb (S 1, R n) when n is even and greater than 3. Finally, we give a new interpretation of the anomaly term for the Vassiliev invariants in R 3. 1.
