Abstract — We consider minimum variance estimation within the sparse linear Gaussian model (SLGM). A sparse vector is to be estimated from a linearly transformed version embedded in Gaussian noise. Our analysis is based on the theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS). After a characterization of the RKHS associated with the SLGM, we derive a lower bound on the minimum variance achievable by estimators with a prescribed bias function, including the important special case of unbiased estimation. This bound is obtained via an orthogonal projection of the prescribed mean function onto a subspace of the RKHS associated with the SLGM. It provides an approximation to the minimum achievable variance (Barankin bound) that is tighter than any known bound. Our bound holds for an arbitrary system matrix, including the overdetermined and underdetermined cases. We specialize

MONITORING OF WET SNOW AND ACCUMULATIONS AT HIGH ALPINE GLACIERS USING RADAR TECHNOLOGIES
"... Conventional studies to assess the annual mass balance for glaciers rely on single point observations in combination with model and interpolation approaches. Just recently, airborne and spaceborne data is used to support such mass balance determinations. Here, we present an approach to map temporal ..."

changes of the snow cover in glaciated regions of Tyrol, Austria, using SAR-based satellite data. Two dual-polarized SAR images are acquired on 22 and 24 September 2014. As X and C-band reveal different backscattering properties of snow, both TerraSAR-X and RADARSAT-2 images are analysed and compared
The taxation effect on gasoline price asymmetry nexus_ Evidence from both sides of the Atlantic
"... We examine the possible causes of gasoline price asymmetry across the globe. We investigate the effect of taxation on the retail gasoline price adjustments. There is a symmetric gasoline price response in the EU wholesale level. Less competitive gasoline markets exhibit price asymmetry. The oligopo ..."
