Shortterm memory for conceptual information is largelymissing from current models of shortterm memory. Several phenomena are discussed that give evidence for very briefconceptual representations of stimuli. Altho~sghthese fleeting representations do not surface readily withmany of the standard methods for studying and testing shortterm memory, I argue that they are fundamental to cognitive processing and to the form that longterm memory takes.

Motivation: A number of available program packages determine the significant enrichments and/or depletions of GO categories among a class of genes of interest. Whereas a correct formulation of the problem leads to a single exact null distribution, these GO tools use a large variety of statistical tests whose denominations often do not clarify the underlying pvalue computations. Summary: We review the different formulations of the problem and the tests they lead to: the binomial, chisquare, equality of two probabilities, Fisher’s exact, and hypergeometric tests. We clarify the relationships existing between these tests, in particular the equivalence between the hypergeometric test and Fisher’s exact test. We recall that the other tests are valid only for large samples, the test of equality of two probabilities and the chisquare test being equivalent. We discuss the appropriateness of one and twosided pvalues, as well as some discreteness and conservatism issues. 1

Abstract. We study moduli of semistable twisted sheaves on smooth proper morphisms of algebraic spaces. In the case of a relative curve or surface, we prove results on the structure of these spaces. For curves, they are essentially isomorphic to spaces of semistable vector bundles. In the case of surfaces, we show (under a mild hypothesis on the twisting class) that the spaces are asympotically geometrically irreducible, normal, generically smooth, and l.c.i. over the base. We also develop general tools necessary for these results: the theory of associated points and purity of sheaves on Artin stacks, twisted Bogomolov inequalities,

In response to temperature downshift, a number of changes occur in cellular physiology such as, (i) decrease in membrane fluidity, (ii) stabilization of secondary structures of nucleic acids leading to reduced efficiency of mRNA translation and transcription, (iii) inefficient folding of some proteins, and (iv) hampered ribosome function. Coldshock response and adaptation has been quite extensively studied in Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. A number of cold shock proteins are induced to counteract these harmful effects of temperature downshift. General principles of coldshock response along with recent findings on desaturase system, RNA chaperone and transcription antitermination function of CspA homologues, cold shock induction of chaperones and synthesis of trehalose, CspA homologues from hyperthermophilic bacteria and possible multiple roles of cold shock proteins in other stress responses of bacteria are discussed.
VANISHING THEOREMS FOR TENSOR POWERS OF AN AMPLE VECTOR BUNDLE JeanPierre DEMAILLY
"... Abstract. — Let E be a holomorphic vector bundle of rank r on a compact complex manifold X of dimension n. It is shown that the cohomology groups H p,q (X, E ⊗k ⊗(det E) l) vanish if E is ample and p+q ≥ n+1, l ≥ n −p+r −1. The proof rests on the wellknown fact that every tensor power E ⊗k splits i ..."

It is shown that the Dolbeault cohomology groups H p,q (X, E ⊗k ⊗ (det E) l) vanish if E is positive in the sense of Griffiths and p + q ≥ n + 1, l ≥ r + C(n, p, q). The proof rests on the we ..."

In an integrated world capital market, the same pricing kernel is applicable to all securities. We apply this idea to the stock returns of different countries. We investigate the underlying determinants of crosscountry stock return correlations. First, we determine, for a given, measured degree of commonality of country outputs, what should be the degree of correlation of national stock returns. We propose a framework that contains a statistical model for output and an intertemporal financial market model for stock returns. We then attempt to match the correlations generated by the model with measured correlations. Our results show that under the hypothesis of market segmentation, the model correlations are much smaller than observed correlations. However, assuming world markets are integrated, our model correlations closely match observed correlations. ∗Dumas and Ruiz acknowledge gratefully the support of the HEC Foundation.
