We have studied the SU(4) Skyrme model with explicit first order chiral and flavour symmetry breaking terms. Using 15meson masses, we have calculated (1/2) + and (3/2) + Baryon masses. The electromagnetic mass differences have also been studied. Introduction Since the equivalence between the large N c limit of QCD and effective meson theory has been pointed out, several attempts have been made to explain the low energy behaviour of baryon in the Skyrme model [1]. Treating baryons as soliton appearing in the effective meson field theory, the properties like masses, magnetic moments, GA/G V of baryons have been reproduced in the model[110]. The agreement is, however, within 30%. A number of features such as quark contribution[4], inclusion of vector meson[5], and hybrid bag[6] have been introduced in order to improve the result. We apply the Skyrme model employing SU(4) x SU(4) chiral meson theory, and 15meson masses as inputs to calculate (1/2) + and (3/2) + baryon masses. It...
