Support (NMSIS) was developed to facilitate LAN management. Among other features, NMSIS integrates tools for the software installation in remote computers, through the network, called image-management. One of the main issues associated with the remote installation of software is the traffic congestion at network intersection points, such as switches and routers. Traffic congestion constrains the quality of services (QoS) in network. This article presents the Bandwidth / Traffic Control (BWTC) tool of NMSIS. The BWTC modulates the traffic flow from the images server to the various clients, depending on the load of the network. Tests were conducted in order to evaluate the performance of BWTC that enable to conclude that it improves the overall QoS in network during the image-management tasks. I.

Abstract. STRING is an hybrid statistical and rule-based natural language processing chain for Portuguese. STRING has a modular structure and performs all basic text processing tasks, namely tokenization and text segmentation, part-of-speech tagging, morphosyntactic disambiguation, shallow parsing (chunking) and deep parsing (dependency extraction). STRING performs Named Entity Recognition, Information Retrieval, Anaphora Resolution and other NLP tasks. A web-interface makes STRING available to the community and the general public.

Abstract. REAP.PT is a system that aims to teach Portuguese in an appealing way. It includes text-based exercises and a serious game. For text-based exercises, the focus is on automatic generation and correction of syntactic and vocabulary questions using real documents found on the web. The serious game takes place in a 3D gaming environment, being used for the learning of expressions denoting spacial relations between objects and object manipulation. The gaming aspects and personalized learning in this tutor are an effort to increase the students ’ motivation and help promote language learning.

Gastropods statoliths are biogenic structures of CaCO3, analogous to fish otoliths [1]. Their application in sclerochronology is recent and may be advantageous comparing to the most traditional organisms used hitherto. Moreover, since elements bind within calcified structures [2], statoliths theoretically incorporate chemical information from the surrounding environment over time. So, besides being used for age estimation and growth studies [1], statoliths elemental fingerprinting is recognized as natural tag to track larval dispersal [2] and may also be considered as a potential marker of environmental change and/or pollution. However there is a lack of information on the elemental composition of adult gastropod statoliths. Here we characterize Nassariusreticulatus (Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) statoliths elemental composition by electron microprobe analysis (EMPA). One statolith from each of 3 adults was prepared for EMPA (Figure 1) and showed the same structural pattern: a nucleus circled by a metamorphic ring and, in addition to this core, 4 other rings delineating 5 increments (Figure 1F). General composition was assessed by Energy and Wavelength Dispersive Spectroscopy revealing C, Ca, O, Sr, Na, S and Mg as the most representative elements. These were then quantified in 3 points per increment. Carbon was not determined since surfaces were C-coated and the amount of oxides of Ca, Sr, Na, S and Mg was estimated from the valence. In addition, Ba – trace element

Abstract — The development of communications systems de-mands testing. This paper presents a framework for testing on-the-fly, which relies on the identification of 3 types of tests and on their sequential execution. The ioco conformance relation was adopted in order to assign verdicts. A prototype tool is also presented that supports the proposed framework. This tool, named PROFYT, was developed based on the SPIN verifier and uses communicating FSMs to describe the specification. PROFYT was used to test Conference Protocol implementations on-the-fly and enabled us to conclude about the benefits of the test methodology proposed. I.
