We present Mother of Perl, a pattern description language developed for use in information extraction. Patterns are described in mop by left-to-right enumeration of components, with each component specified at the appropriate level of descriptive granularity. The patterns are compiled into Perl scripts, which perform back-tracking search on the input text. mop also allows for rapid integration of a variety of analytical modules, such as part-of-speech taggers and parsers. 1 Introduction Information extraction (IE) is the task of processing large volumes of texts in order to extract the information necessary to fill a predefined template or to populate a database. The process of IE is typically done by matching patterns on either the raw text or on a processed form of the text. The patterns can rely on a number of sources of linguistic information, such as morphology, part-of-speech tags, fixed phrases and predicate-argument relations. A central objective in information extraction is ...

This study investigated the potential of Launea taraxacifolia for in vitro regeneration. Stem and leaf explants were inoculated on full strength Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with varying concentrations of 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Leaf explants responded to all concentrations of 2,4-D used while stem explants responded to only two of the 2, 4-D concentrations suggesting that leaf explants might be a better source of explants. Leaf explants generated shoots on medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l kinetin and 0.1 mg/l 2, 4-D. This study is the first report on in vitro regeneration of Launea taraxacifolia.

expressed in this article are not necessarily those of the Federal Reserve. Large American cities have disproportionately large shares of highly educated workers, a growing trend in recent decades.1 What’s the draw? Money for one thing, naturally. Not only do big-city firms generally pay higher wages; there is also evidence that the differential is greater for those with more education. These higher wages raise interesting ques-tions: Why do firms in big cities find it profitable to pay more? That is, what makes a well-educated city worker more valuable than a comparably educated worker in a small town? And it’s not just about money: Evidence suggests that ameni-ties are increasingly important factors in where people choose to live, and big cities appear to provide greater amenities for
