Improving efficiency and fairness in p2p systems with effort-based incentives
- In Proceedings of ICC
, 2010
"... Abstract — 1 Most P2P systems that have any kind of incentive mechanism reward peers ’ contribution in terms of uploaded volume. Due to the disparity in bandwidth capacity between P2P users on the Internet, the common effect of such mechanisms is that the fastest peers reap the highest benefits. We ..."

take a different approach and study how to incentivize cooperation in P2P systems based on peers ’ effort, i.e., contribution relative to capacity. We make the following contributions: 1) we propose that volume-based incentive schemes in P2P systems unnecessarily punish slow peers and decrease overall
Innovation Activities and the Incentives for Vertical Acquisitions and Integration
"... ABSTRACT We examine the incentives for firms to vertically integrate through acquisitions and production. We develop a new firm-specific measure of vertical relatedness and integration using 10-K product text. We find that firms in high R&D industries are less likely to become targets in vertic ..."

At each time t, they cooperate to produce a product at a base price P b t . The sale price P t that can charged on consumers further depends on commercialization and product

Since selfish behavior of overlay networks to satisfy demands of their applications and users often conflicts with each other, performance of the overall network system and quality of service offered to ..."

Universität Oldenburg, D-26111 OldenburgClimate Policy with Technology Transfers and Permit Trading
, 2011
"... In this paper, we analyze technology transfers (TT) and tradable emission rights, which are core issues of the ongoing climate negotiations. Subsidizing TT leads to the adoption of better abatement technologies in developing countries, thereby reducing the international permit price. This is benefic ..."

. This is beneficial for industrialized countries as long as they are permit buyers, and as long as they can target subsidies to “additional ” investments. We also consider how TT affects countries ’ non-cooperative choices of permit endowments and find that it reduces overall emissions. Finally, a simple numerical

Existing techniques are either too simple to be realistic or are too specific to a particular network structure to be used for comparin ..."

Darmstadt, den 28th February 2014 (Denis Lapiner) This Master’s Thesis proposes and implements a game design for an Android based massively multiplayer online augmented reality game. The proposed game design is based on an analysis of other popular aug-mented reality games such as Ingress, a game created by Google Inc. The game of this thesis motivates the players to meet in the real world and move in groups to certain points of interest like historic mon-uments. The spatial locality of players, which comes up when players move in groups, makes the game interesting for the research on mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The provided implementation of the game contains a centralized communication component that logs the network communication between players and therefore, is usable for data collection of network traffic in MANETs. The collected data

Driver Management that Drives Carrier Performance
- Journal of Business Logistics

"... T he trucking industry provides the majority of transportation services in the United States. Truck drivers, particularly their driving performance, which influences how customers perceive motor carriers, are integral to the success of their firms. Hence, driver management is a topic of great inter ..."
