Accessing Interactive Examples with Adaptive Navigation Support

by Michael Yudelson, Peter Brusilovsky, Sergey Sosnovsky - FOURTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCED LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES (ICALT'04 , 2004
"... This paper discusses a need to provide adaptive navigation support for students accessing large numbers of interactive examples in Web-enhanced education. We introduce the system NavEx that is able to provide adaptive annotation of programming examples without any need of manual indexing. NavEx uses ..."

Collaborative Example Authoring System: The Value of Re-annotation based on Community Feedback

by I-han Hsiao, Peter Brusilovsky
"... Abstract. Learning from examples is a common and powerful approach when mastering the art of programming. In our classroom studies of WebEx and NavEx, students highly praised the systems. However, the broader dissemination of this approach was not very successful due to the lack of content – annotat ..."

This thesis presents CraneTracker, a multi-modal sensing and communication system for monitoring migratory species at the continental level. By exploiting the robust and extensive cellular infrastructure across the continent, traditional mobile wireless sensor networks can be extended to enable reliable, low-cost monitoring of migratory species. The developed multi-tier architecture yields ecologists with unconventional behavior in-formation not furnished by alternative tracking systems at such a large scale and for a low-cost. The simulation, development and implementation of the CraneTracker soft-ware system is presented. The system is shown effective through multiple proxy deploy-

JSConTest: Contract-Driven Testing and Path Effect Inference for

by Phillip Heideggera, Peter Thiemanna
"... Abstract Program understanding is a major obstacle during program maintenance. In an object-oriented language, understanding an operation requires understanding its type and its effect on the object network. The effect is particularly important for scripting languages where there is neither class st ..."

an algorithm for computing access permissions from a set of access paths obtained by running the program. The main ingredient of the algorithm is a novel heuristic that produces precise and concise results without user interaction. It has been applied to a range of examples with encouraging results.

Using the NITE XML Toolkit on the Switchboard Corpus to study syntactic choice: a case study

by unknown authors
"... The NITE XML Toolkit (NXT) provides library support for working with multimodal language corpora. We describe our experiences in using it to study discourse effects on syntactic choice using the parsed Switchboard Corpus as a starting point, as a case study for others who may wish to adopt similar t ..."

techniques using NXT or one of the other libraries that are beginning to emerge. We discuss conversion into the NXT data format; automatic annotation of markables and of constituent length; hand-annotation of markables for animacy information structure, and coreferential links; and data analysis. 1.

Abstract—This paper presents the model of Intelligence Information System (IIS) based on a Service-Oriented Architecture. In this paper we propose the new service’s model, based on the Intelligence cycle and other systems which are necessary for gathering Intelligence information and data. The paper is mostly focused on the system architecture and services design as a mainstream for definition of the services. Furthermore, additional attention is dedicated on the

Computational Tools for Protein-DNA Interactions How Many Binding Proteins Exist?

by Christopher Kauffman , George Karypis
"... Abstract Interactions between DNA and proteins are central to living systems, and characterizing how and when they occur would greatly enhance our understanding of working genomes. We review the different computational problems associated with protein-DNA interactions and the various methods used t ..."

. Approaches in the literature examine bound protein-DNA complexes and either apply existing software to obtain interaction energy or develop new energy functions. Both approaches make use of complexed structures from the PDB. The goals of such studies are usually to establish why binding happens, to quantify
