The Geometric Maximum Traveling Salesman Problem
, 1999
"... We consider the traveling salesman problem when the cities are points in R^d for some fixed d and distances are computed according to geometric distances, determined by some norm. We show that for any polyhedral norm, the problem of finding a tour of maximum length can be solved in polynomial time. ..."

1 MOSES: a Framework for QoS Driven Runtime Adaptation of Service-oriented Systems
"... Abstract—Architecting software systems according to the serviceoriented paradigm, and designing runtime self-adaptable systems are two relevant research areas in today’s software engineering. In this paper we address issues that lie at the intersection of these two important fields. First, we presen ..."

present a characterization of the problem space of self-adaptation for service-oriented systems, thus providing a frame of reference where our and other approaches can be classified. Then, we present MOSES, a methodology and a software tool implementing it to support QoS-driven adaptation of a service
Chapter 12 Rough Sets and Rough Logic: A KDD Perspective
"... Abstract Basic ideas of rough set theory were proposed by Zdzis law Pawlak [85, 86] in the early 1980’s. In the ensuing years, we have witnessed a systematic, world–wide growth of interest in rough sets and their applications. The main goal of rough set analysis is induction of approximations of con ..."

This thesis presents CraneTracker, a multi-modal sensing and communication system for monitoring migratory species at the continental level. By exploiting the robust and extensive cellular infrastructure across the continent, traditional mobile wireless sensor networks can be extended to enable reliable, low-cost monitoring of migratory species. The developed multi-tier architecture yields ecologists with unconventional behavior in-formation not furnished by alternative tracking systems at such a large scale and for a low-cost. The simulation, development and implementation of the CraneTracker soft-ware system is presented. The system is shown effective through multiple proxy deploy-

In these lectures I review some basic examples of how the concepts of universality and scaling can be used to study aspects of the chiral and the deconfinement transition, if not in QCD directly but in QCD-like theories. As an example for flavor dynamics I discuss a quark-hadron model to describe the phase diagram of two-color QCD with the functional renormalization group. Universal aspects of deconfinement are illustrated mainly in the 2 + 1 dimensional SU(N) gauge theories with second order transition where many exact results from spin models can be exploited.
