Expanding the TRANSFAC database towards an expert system of regulatory molecular mechanisms

by I. Reuter, F. Schacherer, E. Wingender , 1998
"... TRANSFAC is a database on transcription factors, their genomic binding sites and DNA-binding profiles. In addition to being updated and extended by new features, it has been complemented now by a series of additional database modules. Among them, modules which provide data about signal transduction ..."

65 PROMOTER ANALYSIS OF MAMMALIAN CLOCK CONTROLLED GENES

by Achim Kramer Hanspeter Herzel
"... The circadian clock is a biological system providing an internal self-sustained temporal framework and adaptation mechanisms to the daily environmental rhythm. One of its behavioral implication in humans is the sleep-wake cycle. The core mammalian circadian clock is a system composed of interacting ..."

circadian fashion and the linkage between the molecular system and behavioral or physiological outputs is poor. Our work aims at identification of clock-controlled genes (CCGs) and their regulatory motifs. We analyzed several microarray measurements of genes with a daily oscillating expression and extracted

Realizing the Promise: Government Information Systems and the Fourth Generation of Information Technology

by David Landsbergen Jr , George Wolken Jr - Public Administration Review , 2001
"... Interoperability is more than "digital plumbing"-making sure that computers talk so that bits of data flow properly. Fundamentally, interoperability is people talking and sharing information. Sharing information reduces the "paperwork burden" on the citizen, streamlines work pro ..."

"... Target discovery is the most crucial step in a modern drug dis-covery campaign. Past records have indicated that the high failure rate of drug development can be largely attributed to improper target selection [1–3]. A target in the drug discovery process can be from a broad spectrum of moieties, su ..."

, such as molecular entities (genes/proteins/miRNA), disease biomarkers, biological pathways and crucial ‘nodes ’ on a regulatory network, as long as it is relevant to a specific disease and its progression [4]. Target discovery can be grouped into two categories, a system approach and a molecular approach [1

Abstract: Online learning initia-tives over the past decade have become increasingly comprehen-sive in their selection of courses and sophisticated in their presen-tation, culminating in the recent announcement of a number of consortium and startup activities that promise to make a university education on the internet, free of charge, a real possibility. At this pivotal moment it is appropriate to explore the potential for obtaining comprehensive bioinformatics training with currently existing free video resources. This article pre-sents such a bioinformatics curric-ulum in the form of a virtual course catalog, together with editorial commentary, and an assessment of strengths, weaknesses, and likely future directions for open online learning in this field. Online Learning Comes of Age Online academic ‘‘courseware’ ’ at the university level has now been available to the public for a decade, the earliest concerted effort having originated in 2002 with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and their OpenCour-seWare initiative
