Recommending as Personalized Teaching - Towards Credible Needs-based eCommerce Recommender Systems

by Markus Stolze, Michael Ströbel , 2004
"... this paper we present an approach for interactive B2C eCommerce systems that support the required guided transition from a needs- to a feature-oriented interaction. The approach distinguishes between a model level and a system level (see Figure 1). On the model level, this approach suggests novel el ..."

Of Attitudes and Engagement: Clarifying the Reciprocal Relationship Between Civic Attitudes and Political Participation

"... In this essay, we draw on broader psychological theories of the attitude-behavior relationship to postulate specific reciprocal patterns of causality between the civic attitudes and forms of political and civic engagement featured in contemporary political communication research. We then examine th ..."

Ultracold atoms in optical lattices provide a highly control-lable environment for the clean experimental realization of various model Hamiltonians from condensed matter and statistical physics. For example, the two-component Bose-Hubbard model, which re-duces to an anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg model in a certain limit and thus allows for the study of quantum magnetism, can be im-plemented by using bosons with two different internal states that couple differently to an optical lattice potential. In this thesis, I present our first experiments with two-component hyperfine-state mixtures of ultracold 87Rb atoms in a state-dependent optical lat-tice, both in the strongly correlated regime and in the context of nonlinear atom optics. For the production of 87Rb Bose-Einstein condensates we have developed a moving-coil transporter apparatus featuring a mag-netic TOP trap which serves as a “phase-space funnel ” to load a

Realizing the Promise: Government Information Systems and the Fourth Generation of Information Technology

by David Landsbergen Jr , George Wolken Jr - Public Administration Review , 2001
"... Interoperability is more than "digital plumbing"-making sure that computers talk so that bits of data flow properly. Fundamentally, interoperability is people talking and sharing information. Sharing information reduces the "paperwork burden" on the citizen, streamlines work pro ..."
