Moses: Open Source Toolkit for Statistical Machine Translation
 ACL
, 2007
"... We describe an opensource toolkit for statistical machine translation whose novel contributions are (a) support for linguistically motivated factors, (b) confusion network decoding, and (c) efficient data formats for translation models and language models. In addition to the SMT decoder, the toolki ..."

Hierarchical phrasebased translation
 Computational Linguistics
, 2007
"... We present a statistical machine translation model that uses hierarchical phrases—phrases that contain subphrases. The model is formally a synchronous contextfree grammar but is learned from a parallel text without any syntactic annotations. Thus it can be seen as combining fundamental ideas from b ..."

Machine Learning in Automated Text Categorization
 ACM COMPUTING SURVEYS
, 2002
"... The automated categorization (or classification) of texts into predefined categories has witnessed a booming interest in the last ten years, due to the increased availability of documents in digital form and the ensuing need to organize them. In the research community the dominant approach to this p ..."

to this problem is based on machine learning techniques: a general inductive process automatically builds a classifier by learning, from a set of preclassified documents, the characteristics of the categories. The advantages of this approach over the knowledge engineering approach (consisting in the manual

The Sketchpad system uses drawing as a novel communication medium for a computer. The system contains input, output, and computation programs which enable it to interpret information drawn directly on a computer display. It has been used to draw electrical, mechanical, scientific, mathematical, and animated drawings; it is a general purpose system. Sketchpad has shown the most usefulness as an aid to the understanding of processes, such as the notion of linkages, which can be described with pictures. Sketchpad also makes it easy to draw highly repetitive or highly accurate drawings and to change drawings previously drawn with it. The many drawings in this thesis were all made with Sketchpad.
An Introduction to Machine Translation
, 1992
"... Abstract. In the last ten years there has been a significant amount of research in Machine Translation within a “new ” paradigm of empirical approaches, often labelled collectively as “Examplebased” approaches. The first manifestation of this approach caused some surprise and hostility among observ ..."

Improved Statistical Alignment Models
In Proceedings of the 38th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics
, 2000
"... In this paper, we present and compare various singleword based alignment models for statistical machine translation. We discuss the five IBM alignment models, the HiddenMarkov alignment model, smoothing techniques and various modifications. ..."

CharacterAware Neural Language Models Yoon Kim† †School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Harvard University
"... We describe a simple neural language model that relies only on characterlevel inputs. Predictions are still made at the wordlevel. Our model employs a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a highway network over characters, whose output is given to a long shortterm memory (LSTM) recurrent neu ..."

Factor Graphs and the SumProduct Algorithm
 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INFORMATION THEORY
, 1998
"... A factor graph is a bipartite graph that expresses how a "global" function of many variables factors into a product of "local" functions. Factor graphs subsume many other graphical models including Bayesian networks, Markov random fields, and Tanner graphs. Following one simple c ..."

Reducing Multiclass to Binary: A Unifying Approach for Margin Classifiers
 JOURNAL OF MACHINE LEARNING RESEARCH
, 2000
"... We present a unifying framework for studying the solution of multiclass categorization problems by reducing them to multiple binary problems that are then solved using a marginbased binary learning algorithm. The proposed framework unifies some of the most popular approaches in which each class ..."
