E.: Automatic clustering of orthologs and inparalogs from pairwise species comparisons.
- Journal of Molecular Biology
, 2001
"... Orthologs are genes in different species that originate from a single gene in the last common ancestor of these species. Such genes have often retained identical biological roles in the present-day organisms. It is hence important to identify orthologs for transferring functional information betwee ..."

between genes in different organisms with a high degree of reliability. For example, orthologs of human proteins are often functionally characterized in model organisms. Unfortunately, orthology analysis between human and e.g. invertebrates is often complex because of large numbers of paralogs within
piRNABank: a web resource on classified and clustered Piwi-interacting RNAs
, 2007
"... Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are expressed in mammalian germline cells and have been identified as key players in germline development. These molecules, typically of length 25–33 nt, associate with Piwi proteins of the Argonaute family to form the Piwi-interacting RNA complex. These small regulato ..."

Comparative and Functional Genomics Meeting Review: Worldwide genomic resources for non-model fish species Meeting Review 503
, 2003
"... Introduction Fish genomics is developing an increasingly high profile, with the sequencing of four fish genomes (Takifugu, Tetraodon, zebrafish and medaka). However, numerous other fish species are used in laboratories throughout the world (the so-called 'alternative-model' or 'non-m ..."

This would not only invigorate gene function analysis but also enable new cross-taxon analysis of genome evolution. The workshop was organized by Andrew Cossins (Liverpool, UK
GENOME-WIDE CENSUS AND EXPRESSION PROFILING OF CHICKEN NEUROPEPTIDE AND PROHORMONE CONVERTASE GENES BY

Expression profiling of the developing mouse lung: insights into the establishment of the extracellular matrix
- Am. J. Respir. Cell Mol. Biol
, 2002
"... We have undertaken a comprehensive gene expression profiling of the entire process of murine lung development using oligonucleotide-based microarrays. Our data reveals the expression pattern of ف 11,000 genes throughout the morphologic stages of lung development. This includes known genes with un ..."

This report focuses on the evidence about the health.consequences of smoking for women, and is intended to serve.the public health and medical communities as 'a unified source of existing scientific research. The major issues about tobacco use and women's health are examined, including trends in consumption, biomedical evidence, and determinants of smoking ititiation, maintenance, and cessation. The biomedical aspects ofsmoking are presented in terms of mortality, morbiplity, cardiovasculaidiseases, cancer, pregnancy and infant, health,, Teptic ulcer disease, drug reactions and, interactions, food constituents, and responses to,diagnostic tests. The psychosocial and behavioraj. aspects, of smoking in women are discussed, along with the docffiented increases in- the risk of contracting lung cancer, heart, disease, or lung disease. The harmful effects of pregnant mothers smoking behaviors, are also docudented. Adhitionally, recent data are enumerated to indicate a trend of,decreasing tobacco usage among women in response to the warnings of the gavernMent, voluntary agencie, and physicrins.
