BlackBox Extension Fields and the Inexistence of FieldHomomorphic OneWay Permutations
"... The blackbox field (BBF) extraction problem is, for a given field, to determine a secret field element hidden in a blackbox which allows to add and multiply values inin the box and which reports only equalities of elements in the box. This problem is of cryptographic interest for two reasons. Fi ..."

The SPLASH2 programs: Characterization and methodological considerations
 INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE

Graphical models, exponential families, and variational inference

"... The formalism of probabilistic graphical models provides a unifying framework for capturing complex dependencies among random variables, and building largescale multivariate statistical models. Graphical models have become a focus of research in many statistical, computational and mathematical fiel ..."

Homological Algebra of Mirror Symmetry
in Proceedings of the International Congress of Mathematicians
, 1994
"... Mirror Symmetry was discovered several years ago in string theory as a duality between families of 3dimensional CalabiYau manifolds (more precisely, complex algebraic manifolds possessing holomorphic volume elements without zeroes). The name comes from the symmetry among Hodge numbers. For dual Ca ..."

CalabiYau manifolds V, W of dimension n (not necessarily equal to 3) one has dim H p (V, Ω q) = dim H n−p (W, Ω q). Physicists conjectured that conformal field theories associated with mirror varieties are equivalent. Mathematically, MS is considered now as a relation between numbers of rational curves

Abstract. We introduce a short signature scheme based on the Computational DiffieHellman assumption on certain elliptic and hyperelliptic curves. The signature length is half the size of a DSA signature for a similar level of security. Our short signature scheme is designed for systems where signatures are typed in by a human or signatures are sent over a lowbandwidth channel. 1

A computer is generally considered to be a universal computational device; i.e., it is believed able to simulate any physical computational device with a increase in computation time of at most a polynomial factor. It is not clear whether this is still true when quantum mechanics is taken into consideration. Several researchers, starting with David Deutsch, have developed models for quantum mechanical computers and have investigated their computational properties. This paper gives Las Vegas algorithms for finding discrete logarithms and factoring integers on a quantum computer that take a number of steps which is polynomial in the input size, e.g., the number of digits of the integer to be factored. These two problems are generally considered hard on a classical computer and have been used as the basis of several proposed cryptosystems. (We thus give the first examples of quantum cryptanalysis.) 1 Introduction Since the discovery of quantum mechanics, people have found the behavior of...

The Sketchpad system uses drawing as a novel communication medium for a computer. The system contains input, output, and computation programs which enable it to interpret information drawn directly on a computer display. It has been used to draw electrical, mechanical, scientific, mathematical, and animated drawings; it is a general purpose system. Sketchpad has shown the most usefulness as an aid to the understanding of processes, such as the notion of linkages, which can be described with pictures. Sketchpad also makes it easy to draw highly repetitive or highly accurate drawings and to change drawings previously drawn with it. The many drawings in this thesis were all made with Sketchpad.
