Evidence Based Mechanisms∗
, 2014
"... This paper studies implementation with privately informed agents who can produce evidence. We define evidence based mechanisms as a class of mechanisms such that the designer’s contingent plan of action is always consistent with available evidence. We characterize the social choice functions that ca ..."

that can be straightforwardly implemented by such mechanisms. Our conditions imply that any social choice function that can be implemented with transfers and no evidence under quasilinear preferences can also be implemented with evidence and no transfers. If the agents have private values, it is possible
Ad Impression Forecasting for Sponsored Search
"... A typical problem for a search engine (hosting sponsored search service) is to provide the advertisers with a forecast of the number of impressions his/her ad is likely to obtain for a given bid. Accurate forecasts have high business value, since they enable advertisers to select bids that lead to b ..."

. Furthermore, some of the existing methods cannot provide predictions for new ads, i.e., for ads that are not present in the logs. In this paper, we develop a generative model based approach that addresses these drawbacks. We design a Bayes net to capture inter-dependencies between the query traffic features

Abstract: Online learning initia-tives over the past decade have become increasingly comprehen-sive in their selection of courses and sophisticated in their presen-tation, culminating in the recent announcement of a number of consortium and startup activities that promise to make a university education on the internet, free of charge, a real possibility. At this pivotal moment it is appropriate to explore the potential for obtaining comprehensive bioinformatics training with currently existing free video resources. This article pre-sents such a bioinformatics curric-ulum in the form of a virtual course catalog, together with editorial commentary, and an assessment of strengths, weaknesses, and likely future directions for open online learning in this field. Online Learning Comes of Age Online academic ‘‘courseware’ ’ at the university level has now been available to the public for a decade, the earliest concerted effort having originated in 2002 with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and their OpenCour-seWare initiative
