ORIGINAL ARTICLE Development of High-precision Micro CNC Machine with Three-dimensional Measurement System

by Hong-wei Liao , 2012
"... Abstract: This study aims at developing a machine center consisting of high-speed micro-milling machine, micro-EDM and coordinate measuring machine. The machine center uses a commercially available PC-Based CNC controller and micro-EDM power supply. The structure design is based on an open L-shaped ..."

self-developed trigger circuit, it also completed a three-dimensional touch trigger probe. The measurement software was developed with Borland C++ Builder. Integrating the three-dimensional touch trigger probe with the three-axis linear scale, the three-dimensional coordinates of the measured values

by F Zernike , M Stampanoni
"... Introduction and Objectives Transition metal concentrations in the central nervous system (CNS) are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Multiple Sclerosis. A common symptom of these diseases is demyelination, which is the degradation of the myelin ..."

on the solution to a three-dimensional deconvolution equation, which is reducible to a block system of linear equations [2]. There are a lot of computational methods for solving such inverse problems, and good results can be achieved by a number of ways. In the widespread Tikhonov's method of regularization

Ultracold atoms in optical lattices provide a highly control-lable environment for the clean experimental realization of various model Hamiltonians from condensed matter and statistical physics. For example, the two-component Bose-Hubbard model, which re-duces to an anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg model in a certain limit and thus allows for the study of quantum magnetism, can be im-plemented by using bosons with two different internal states that couple differently to an optical lattice potential. In this thesis, I present our first experiments with two-component hyperfine-state mixtures of ultracold 87Rb atoms in a state-dependent optical lat-tice, both in the strongly correlated regime and in the context of nonlinear atom optics. For the production of 87Rb Bose-Einstein condensates we have developed a moving-coil transporter apparatus featuring a mag-netic TOP trap which serves as a “phase-space funnel ” to load a

COSMOLOGICAL MODELS OF MODIFIED GRAVITY

by Jolyon Keith Bloomfield, Ph. D , 2013
"... The recent discovery of dark energy has prompted an investigation of ways in which the accelerated expansion of the universe can be realized. In this dissertation, we present two separate projects related to dark energy. The first project analyzes a class of braneworld models in which multiple brane ..."

branes float in a five-dimensional anti-de Sitter bulk, while the second investigates a class of dark energy models from an effective field theory perspective. Investigations of models including extra dimensions have led to modifications of gravity involving a number of interesting features
