*Due Process Students are making increasingly strong efforts to excercise what they consider to be their rights, and it is becoming ever more Crucial to define what these rights are and what the concept of "due process " means. This report explains the meaning of procedural due process: the concept of "dueness " and the student's "right " to due process. In addition it discusses: (1) the legal rerationship between the student and the institution: the contract theory, the concept of in loco parentis, the fiduciary theory, and the constitutional theory; (2) the present state of disciplinary procedures within the academy and elements of fair and just dealing in student discipline cases which should meet the "due process" requirement; (3) methods for initiating an adjudicatory system and procedures which will assure that these requirements are met; (4) some minor issues which surround the main topic, such as violation of a criminal or civil law, double jeopardy, self incrimination, right to a private or public hearing and severance,

15. SUPPLEMENTAL NOTES Presented in this report are results of a laboratory investigation designed to examine the effectiveness of water jetting as a means for mitigating defects in drilled shaft foundations. The primary objective of this research was to establish an empirical relationship between water jetting pressure and the removal of deleterious materials from drilled shaft defects (e.g. low strength concrete, slurry mix concrete, semi-cemented sand, loose soil, etc.). The principal research activities conducted as part of this study included: a search of the existing literature and interviews with foundation contractors to identify the current state of water jet technology; and, a parametric laboratory investigation to examine water jetting effectiveness in relation to jetting pressure, standoff distance,

project's goal was the development of a radar system to detect obstacles obscured by deep snow, and to provide range information for guardrails under snowbanks. After the project started, the need for such a system was re-evaluated by Caltrans end users and management, and it was determined that such a system would not currently be cost-beneficial. In response, research work on this project halted after approximately one quarter of work. This report documents the work performed in one quarter, which included the development of complete architecture and highlevel system design, as well as preliminary detailed system design. The report also provides further information on the motivation and history of the project. 17. Key Words
