In this paper, second order Godunov methods are reviewed. The early versions by Colella and Voodward (PPM) and van Leer (MUSCL) are described in their original form. The simplification of these by Roe, based on approximate Riemann solver, is then presented. Attention is next given to the improvement in MUSCL due to Hancock and van Leer leading to a fuller paper by Huynh. Finally, brief reference is made to TVD and ENO schemes due to Harten.

An evaluation of four firing profiles was performed to determine the optimum processing conditions for producing high-T c Bi 1.8 Pb 0.33 Sr 1.87 Ca 2 Cu 3 O x thick films on yttriastabilized zirconia substrates. Using these four profiles, the effects of sintering temperatures of 830-850°C and soak times of 0.5 to 12 hours were examined. In this study, T c,zero values of 100K were obtained using a firing profile in which the films were sintered for 1.5 to 2 hours at 840 to 845°C and then quenched to room temperature. X-ray diffraction analyses of these specimens confirmed the presence of the high-Tc phase. Films which were similarly fired and furnace cooled from the peak processing temperature exhibited a two-step superconductive transition to zero resistance, with T c,zero values ranging from 85 to 92K. The other firing profiles evaluated in this investigation yielded specimens which either exhibited critical transition temperatures below 90K or did not exhibit a superconductive transi...

This paper describes the recognition of implicit serialization due to coarse-grain, synchronous communication and demonstrates the conversion to asynchronous communication for the exchange of boundary condition information in the ThinLayer Navier Stokes 3-Dimensional Multi Block (TLNS3DMB) code. The implementation details of using asynchronous communication is provided including buffer allocation, message identification, and barrier control. The IBM SP2 was used for the tests presented. Introduction A coarse-grained parallel version of Thin-Layer Navier Stokes 3-Dimensional Multi Block (TLNS3DMB) was developed by Dr. Veer Vatsa and Bruce Wedan [1]. The goal was to develop a parallel and scalable version with minimal code changes to the sequential code. Since the code is multi-block, it was structured to readily incorporate coarse-grain parallelism, wherein one or more blocks of the global grid are assigned to each processor of a workstation cluster or parallel computer. More than one...
