The best aspect of a research environment, in my opinion, is the abundance of bright people with whom you argue, discuss, and nurture your ideas. I thank all of the people at Penn and elsewhere who have given me the feedback that has helped me to separate the good ideas from the bad ideas. I hope that Ihave kept the good ideas in this thesis, and left the bad ideas out!
