Abstract
The potential benefits of tighter coupling between risk reduction and comprehensive land use planning have been well-documented (Burby 1998). However, community planning that promotes safety and growth is not fully practiced in the United States and Canada (e.g., IBHS, 2007). To improve the integration, the Geological Survey of Canada, with contributions from the United States Geological Survey, is designing “Pathways, ” an analytic-deliberative framework for regional risk reduction planning.
