Abstract

. In this paper we study a mathematical model of the sequence of memory references generated by a program. This model is an extension of the continuous model proposed in [9]. In the context of an architecture with cachememories, we derive analytical formulas for the miss ratio and the execution time per instruction. The parameters of these formulas are the cache size, the block size, the associativity and the locality of the program. The respective influences of these parameters on the performances of the architecture are analyzed and compared with the results based on trace-driven simulations.
