Abstract

this paper demonstrate for the rst time that V1 neurons do respond to the subjective contour of a static Kanizsa gure. Furthermore, they show that illusory contour response occurs later in V1 than in V2 for the same stimulus. Together, these two observations suggest that early perceptual computations likely involve the interaction of V1 9 and V2. V2 neurons are more global in their representation, but are compromised in their spatial resolution. Feedback to V1 may be necessary to instantiate a more precise and re ned contour representation in the brain
