Abstract

When people use a city’s public-transportation system, they face a seemingly simple task. They start at a point somewhere in the city, go to a nearby station, look for the best connection to another station near where they want to go, travel to that station, and finally go to their destination. Usually, people use two maps to accomplish that task: an ordinary geographic city map (a street-level map) and a schematic map of the public-transportation system (a metro map). The reason for that is that both types of maps have advantages Schematic transportation and disadvantages.
