Abstract
ULB, who patiently introduced me to the world of pattern formation in nonequilibrium systems. Even when I returned to Denmark, they always found the time to answer my desperate e-mails, and this I am very grateful for. In fact the entire Center of Nonlinear Phenomenons and Complex Systems at ULB is just plain inspiring. I would like to thank Anne De Wit and Stephane Metens for many friendly discussions. Also thanks to Gregoire Nicolis for letting me come to Service Chimie Physique in the rst place. The Chaos Group have been most of my student life ever since I decided to write my midterm project here. During these times, I always seemed to bounce into Morten Andersen and Niklas Carlsson, and they were never too busy to stop and discuss all sorts of things. ii My family has always supported me no matter what I decided to do.
