Abstract
FOREWORD The purpose of this report is to provide preliminary design guidelines for driver information systems using auditory or visual display techniques. The guidelines are based on field and lab experience with pre-competitive interface designs, as well as the human factors engineering literature. This report will be useful to the designers of driver information systems and scientists conducting driving-related human factors research in academia, industry, or government agencies.
