Work-family conflict and its impact on women’s careers is becoming a topic of major interest in East Asian countries, such as China, since more and more women regard their employment, not merely as a way of adding to the family income, but as a career. Seven hotels in four regions of China – Beijing, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau – were assessed as case studies for this research project investigating differences in women’s experiences of work-family conflict in hotels in the East. Differences between men and women’s working experiences were elicited by investigating employees ’ perception towards work, levels of ambition, and experiences of societal pressures on career choices and family roles. 1.
